Honda’s 2008 small car the JAZZ

1) Honda is yet to officially unveil its next generation Jazz in the upcoming Tokyo Motor show but as usual pictures are already out.  Honda’s Jazz is known as ‘Fit’ in Japan.  This JAZZ will be the Honda’s small car for India to take on  upcomingggggg  Skoda’s Fabia, Volkswagen polo bluemotion, and Toyota’s small car.  Honda’s Jazz and Skoda Fabia are expected to be priced around Rs6 lakhs.  Hence all these small cars will be positioned above the  B+(Maruti swift) segment.

3)Jazz is not just a hatchback version of city, it is more upmarket. Jazz share the seats with accord and its steering wheel resembles civic. Jazz is stylish and embellish typical Honda design – sharp lines and central bonnet ridge. Honda Jazz sharp headlamps supplements thesteeply raked windscreen but the front grille resembles the CR-V. Alloy wheels and ellipsoidal glass area decorates the Jazz side. Similar to other sporty hatchback, the curved roof merges with the smaller rear glass area. Jazz taillamp is the pure attraction it blends with the rear. Jazz’s tail gate is mounted in the centre and is wide.

4)   Jazz is roomy just not because of well known Honda’s clever packaging but also through its generous dimensions. Honda’s Jazz is 3900mm longer(qualifyies to avail the tax benefit), 1695mm wider and has a 2500mm longer wheelbase which means a comfortable living space inside the hatchback. Also Jazz features a massive 400-litre boot. Suspension is by McPherson struts up front and torsion beam at the rear. Honda’s Jazz is well known for its groundbreaking central fuel tank which ensures a flat floor cabin(revised in the new jazz to provide more rear headroom) and the magic cinema-style seats – a clever floding five-seat layout,  which allows owners to expand the load area at the pull of a single lever.  Comfy Jazz will suit your space needs.

Suzuki’s plans

Suzuki will introduce a 150cc motorcycle early 2008. Apart from the 150cc bike suzuki will launch another model next year(possibly a 175cc model). “Since sales of two models in the 100cc and 125cc segments have slumped, we are looking at the market for 150cc bikes now. We are also considering launching a 175cc bike, but it will depend on how the premium segment grows,” Suzuki said. Altogether a total of three launches in the next two years. don’t expect the following from suzuki:

Suzuki ruled out any sales tie-up through the existing dealer network with Maruti. Suzuki says no to any product in the 100 cc category. Suzuki also ruled out a CNG variant in any of its products since it ”did not see the ability to house the CNG kit safely” in the two wheelers. . Suzuki also ruled out the commercial launch of the top-end Suzuki 1,000 cc bikes. ”The government policy is not suitable. We might get these bikes only as a representational model since the the roads are not suitable. Also the duties on the bikes are very high,” suzuki said.

Chevrolet’s optra SRV diesel

SRV gets a new diesel engine according to this chevrolet’s new site. http://2007optrasrv_in.in.pls.carscomplete.com/prelaunch/dispatch.do

SRV’s perfect mate – the TCDi engine:Imagine an engine which is powerful than the might skoda powers your small car. General Motor plans to strap optra magnum’s 2.0L TCDi engine under the SRV’s hood. The 2.0L, 16V TCDi engine (Turbo Charged Common Rail Direct Injection) pumps out 120.5PS at 3000rpm and maximum torque of 314Nm at 2125rpm. Both these figures are greater than the mighty Skoda Octavia. This engine is also getting popular for its frugal nature. Five speed manual transmission is mated to this engine.

SRV Diesel Vs SRV petrol:

Apart from the new diesel heart, new SRV diesel will feature some cosmetic upgrades. New 15″ Alloy Wheel will replace the 14″ steel wheels found in SRV petrol. SRV diesel will also get new fat tyres i.e 195/60 R15 Tyres(185/65 R14 tyres in SRV petrol). SRV diesel also gets a new 5 MPH Impact Proof Bumper at the front(2.5 MPH in the SRV petrol model). Driver seatbelt in the new SRV(diesel) gets a load limiter. No sunglass holder for the SRV diesel model. SRV diesel is expected to be priced Rs90000 than the gasoline SRV. SRV diesel will come at a price of Rs790000(ex- showroom).

if it happens:  SRV diesel will not make any jitter in sedan or in hatchback market but it will certainly rock the Ford Fusion’s new diesel journey hard.

Suzuki’s Kizashi concept

1) Suzuki unveiled a new concept car named ‘kizashi’ at the 2007 Frankfurt Auto Show. This car is sure to cause fever to Honda and Toyota, ya, suzuki’s new concept is not a small car but a smart mid size sedan. The Kizashi – a name meaning ‘prelude’ or ‘foretaste’ – suggests what form Suzuki’s future will take. The D-segment initiative- the kizashi revealed in Frankfurt represents the beginning of the third phase of the world strategy. The main objective of this phase is status. The first phase of the new world strategy was implemented with the focus on ‘Sporty’, a philosophy that resulted in great success with the launch of Swift, Grand Vitara and SX4. The new Splash represents the second phase for Suzuki.

suzuki-kizashi-india.jpg

2) Suzuki which was founded in 1909 is regarded as the best small car maker all over the world. But despite the small car sucess, Suzuki has not been able to continue many of the customers to stay with the automaker when purchasing subsequent, larger cars. Suzuki feels obliged to respond to increasing expectations and is convinced that it’s essential to offer a wider product range in order to accommodate customers’ diverse lifestyles. Consequently, Suzuki has decided to expand its lineup to cover all segments from A to D in the next few years. Suzuki’s first-ever D-segment car ‘kizashi’ will stand at the top of the range. Suzuki’s new plan will be reflected in its Indian line-up too.

maruti-suzuki-kizashi-sedan-side-view.jpg

3) Suzuki which already sources larger cars from General Motors will now make its own D segment car through its kizashi concept. Suzuki targets an uncompromised combination of affordability and emotional appeal with the new kizashi. Suzuki which has already given a sporty hatchback -the Swift Sport plans to carry the same for the D-segment. At the same time, kizashi will ensure the cabin roominess that is essential in the D-segment

maruti-suzuki-kizashi-sedan-side-view-1.jpg

4) Though the Suzuki’s kizashi concept is powered by a new 2.0-liter turbo diesel, Suzuki plans to use a hybrid arrangement (an internal combustion engine provides the main propulsion, and an electric motor provides assistance whenever extra power is needed) to achieve environmental compatibility. Kizashi’s dynamic performance will be enhanced all-wheel drive (AWD) a technology that Suzuki has refined over many years.

maruti-suzuki-kizashi-rear.jpg

5) A production version of the Kizashi is slated to appear in 2008, with worldwide sales to start in 2009. Being the Suzuki’s prime market, India will get the kizashi at the same time. In Indian context, Maruti may strap its 1.6L SX4 engine or a 2.0L vitara engine into the kizashi. Suzuki says its Kizashi is planned as the automaker’s future competitor to the Accord and Camry. But Indian news agencies says the ‘big car'(kizashi) from the Maruti Suzuki will compete with the likes of Honda Civic, Toyota Corolla and skoda octavia which  comes in a price bracket of Rs 10-12 lakh. Anyway, Maruti Suzuki is not just for your small car needs!

Maruti Suzuki’s 2008 small car – the splash

Catch the hot pictures and test drive report of  Ritz review http://www.vicky.in/blog/maruti-suzuki-ritz-test-drive/

1) The next generation WagonR – the ‘splash’ is ready! Suzuki unveiled its ‘splash’ MPV(Multi Purpose Vehicle) in the Frankfurt Motor Show. First unveiled as a concept car in 2006 paris motor show, the splash has been put into production in Magyar Suzuki Corporation in Hungary. The Splash is the fourth new model for the Maruti Suzuki after the launch of Swift, Grand Vitara and SX4. Splash which the Splash is based on a shortened version of the Swift’s platform will be the natural choice for the Maruti suzuki’s next small car in India.

maruti-suzuki-splash-india.jpg

2) Maruti Suzuki splash may have the choice of three engines – two petrol and a diesel. An 1.0-litre 3-cylinder petrol unit producing 65 PS (48 kW) and a 1.2-litre 4-cylinder petrol engine developing 86 PS (63 kW) will power the splash. Both the petrol engine have four-valve-per-cylinder. Maruti Suzuki swift’s 1.3-litre DDIS may also be strapped into the new splash. All three engines are combined with a 5-speed manual gearbox. The 1.2L petrol splash feature an optional 4-speed automatic transmission. All the engines of the splash are Euro4-compliant. Acccording to Suzuki, Splash is a multipurpose vehicle that will likely appeal to those with small families and a limited budget

maruti-suzuki-splash-india-small-car-front.jpg

3) Maruti Suzuki’s Splash is orientated strongly towards the European design style. The second generation Agila for Opel/Vauxhall is built similar to this splash. Maruti Suzuki’s new wagon-R(splash) has some hints of both the Swift and SX4. Rather than a purely functional box shape (like the Wagon R!), the Suzuki designed the new small car that corresponds to the Splash name: youthful, fresh and stylish. Maruti Suzuki’s Splash styling team was headed by Akira Kamio who was instrumental in the styling of Swift.

maruti-suzuki-small-car-splash-india-rear.jpg

4) Maruti Suzuki’s Splash will be marketed for its such high seating position, good visibility and spacious interiors. Splash will avail excise benefits, as its length is less than 4 m. Splash is built on a 30 mm shorter wheelbase version of the Maruti Suzuki’s Swift platform. The 3.72 m-long, 1.6metres tall and 1.7metre wide Suzuki’s splash will offer comfortable space for five occupants due to clever pacakaging. Suzuki’s splash is very cleverly engineered, here’s one feature that elucidates the splash’s clever engineering – rear seat of the splash can be folded down at a flick of the wrist to create a completely flat load floor, with a compartment beneath providing additional storage space. The end result is the splash will have 1150 liters of stowage space when the seats are folded.

maruti-suzuki-small-car-2008-splash-india-interiors.jpg

5) According to Keith Carroll, General manager of Suzuki Carroll, the Splash will have a clean and functional interior. “It will have a minimalist dashboard which the young person of today would like to see,” he said. “The emphasis will be on the sound or entertainment, not on information like the tacho” he added. The european splash will get a lot of leisure equipement and safety features like ESP,ABS and EBD. When the Suzuki’s splash become Maruti Suzuki’s splash this expensive will be stripped down and the indian splash will have few passive safety features which includes a crash-optimised, rigid passenger cell, plus seatbelt-force limiters and seatbelt pretensioners for the front seats. For pedestrian protection the front end of Splash is fitted with energy-absorbing structures. Maruti may price the car around its Wagon R, which comes with a tag of about Rs 3.50 lakh. Splash is expected to go on sale in Europe in March 2008, india will get the splash soon after that. Here’s youtube video of Suzuki splash
