Hyundai Kona Electric, the first all-electric model of the South Korean brand in India has been launched at an introductory price of Rs.25.30 lakh (ex-showroom, India). It is also the first ever electric SUV of India. The all-new Kona Electric has been brought as a CKD unit which is likely to be assembled locally at the Hyundai Chennai facility. The Kona EV gets powered by a permanent magnet synchronous motor that comes with a 39.2kWh lithium-ion battery pack developing 134bhp of power and 395 Nm of torque. Transmission duties are handled by an automatic gearbox. The battery can be fully charged in 6 hours and 17 minutes with a standard AC charger while a 100kW DC fast charger makes the battery to get 80 percent charged in just 57 minutes. On a single charge, the battery claims to provide an ARAI certified range of 452 kms. The claimed top speed is 155kmph and 0-100kmph time is merely 9.7 seconds. Kona Electric looks almost similar to the standard Kona with some notable changes, including the lack of the front grille and exhausts that has been replaced by a unique design pattern, revised bumpers, badging and a unique 17-inch alloy wheels. The all-electric Hyundai SUV comes equipped with features including automatic LED headlights, LED tail-lights, plastic body cladding and roof rails. On the interior, the Kona EV gets all black interiors, leather seats, leather wrapped steering wheel, electric sunroof, cruise control, 7.0-inch digital dashboard, head-up display, wireless charging, automatic climate control and an 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Bluetooth connectivity and voice recognition. Hyundai Kona Electric is available in four colours viz., Marina Blue, Phantom Black, Typhoon Silver and Polar White along with one dual-tone (white with a black roof) exterior option.
