Tata Ace Dicor TCIC First Look Review

Ace Dicor TCIC is powered up by the Turbo-charged and Dicor engine. The maximum power would come about 40 Hp while the peak torque of 94 Nm is achieved with this powertrain. The mill gets mated to the transmission unit consisting of 5 forward gears that are synchromeshed, whilst the reverse gear is of sliding mesh type. One can claim the top speed of 90 kmpl, with 30% gradeability. The payload capacity and fuel-efficiency tends to be the same as like that of Tata Ace.Efficient braking power is achieved with the support of dual circuit hydraulically actuated diagonal split with booster. Further for good handling dynamics, parabolic leaf spring at front and semi-elliptical leaf spring at the rear have been provided. Greater stability is achieved through the means of wheelbase measuring 2100mm and ground clearance that would measure up to 160mm.

Editorial Test Drive Review of Tata Ace Dicor TCIC

Tata Ace Dicor TCIC

The Tata Ace was born in 2005 and was designed mostly for the Indian market. With a length of only 3800 mm and a width of 1500 mm, the Tata Ace is the smaller brother of the Super Ace model and is positioned in the same segment with models like the Daihatsu Hijet, Piaggio Porter or Suzuki Carry. Detailed description of the trucks is given below.

Dimensions

The mini truck sits on tiny 13 inch wheels, but it has a pretty generous load area which has a 2140 mm length and 1430 width. It measures 3800mm in length, 1500mm in width and 1861mm in height and a wheelbase of 2100mm. It has a ground clearance of 160mm and turning circle radius of 4.3mm.

Design and Style

Regardless of its minimized measurements, the Tata Ace components a body on casing development which improves its utilitarian character. The general outline is entirely down to earth with huge entryway which offers simple access inside and wide glass range for an appropriate all round perceivability. The cab over engine configuration gives it a boxy appearance and a pretty dull look.

The front fascia features two circular headlights and round turning signals mounted above them. The lights are flanking a big radiator grille which is split in two sections by a thin bar that also bares the company’s logo in its center. Unlike other vehicles in the segment which come with a big and imposing bumper, the Tata Ace features a very small bumper which is fitted with two round fog lamps. The dashboard features a pretty odd design, but it’s fitted with a lot of storage areas to enhance the comfort.

All plastics are rock hard, as they were chosen firstly for their durability. The build quality is also on the rubbish side and the Ace feels noticeably cheaper than its Japanese rivals. The instrument cluster is fitted with a single gauge for the speedometer which is fairly big and can be easy to read. Because of the conservative outside measurements, the inside space must be relinquished and the seats feel truly confined with constrained room to breathe. Rather, you have a considerable lot of head-room and the seats have likewise a couple of changes in accordance with make your life on board somewhat simpler.

Contrasted with different units in the section, the Ace's steering wheel looks old, yet its measurements were admirably chosen and it offers a decent snatch. However, the rear visibility is limited, as the truck isn’t offered with two exterior mirrors and is fitted with only one small mirror which is mounted on the driver’s side.

Engine Specification

The Tata Ace Dicor TCIC is equipped with a 798 cc 4 stroke, direct injection diesel common rail, turbocharged engine which has a maximum output of 40.2 hp @ 3750 rpm, with a peak torque of 94 Nm @ 2000 - 2500 rpm. The truck’s GVW (gross vehicle weight) is rated at 1770 kg while the kerb weight is 920 kg. These numbers are pretty small, but the engine still feels underpowered especially when it’s fully loaded or it has to deal with sloped sections. Its maximum speed is only 70 kmph.

The engine is combined with a five speed synchromesh transmission which offers deep gear ratios to extract the proper amount of torque needed for the arduous missions of the truck. Unfortunately the gearbox has a rubbery feel and needs constant gear changes in order to keep the engine’s performances to a satisfactory level.

Braking and Handling

For dealing the generous payloads and harsh terrains, the Tata Ace is equipped with parabolic leaf suspensions at front and semi elliptical leaf spring with anti roll bar at rear. The heavy duty suspensions are combined with hydraulic telescopic shock absorbers. This configuration offers a bumpy ride and you should also be prepared for poor road stability. The good part is that the steering is pretty accurate and rewards you with a proper road feedback. The Tata Ace is also surprisingly agile around the city and has a minimum turning circle diameter of 8.6 meters. The stopping power is assured by discs at the front and drums at the rear. The brakes aren’t something to rave about, but you won’t need any stronger performances either, as the engine power is pretty small.

Verdict

It's simple and even reasonable to scrutinize the Tata Ace. It's just a large portion of a truck, and it has a poor built quality joined with a simple inside and also about the rubbery gearbox and the minor motor. In any case, in the wake of playing around in an assortment of street conditions, the haze of oddity wears off and it's useful nature wins the day. This mini truck is also very cheap to maintain and easy to repair. It's actual that the Ace is without any security highlights, yet it repays with the tough character of a little work horse which will work well for you in any circumstance. Need of a small LCV in an urban area, Tata Ace is the suitable vehicle for carrying small loads from here to there.
