1) Bullet’s new avatar will be out soon! Yes, Royal Enfield’s first engine with integrated gearbox is ready. In Indian context the 350cc Thunderbird will be fitted with this UCE (Unit Constructed Engine) or Integrated engine. But no Fuel Injection(FI) for Indian market atleast for now. Royal Enfield makes use of twin spark in the new engine to achieve better fuel efficiency but the company claims the usage and application of the technology is entirely different from TVS and Bajaj. Royal Enfield also says Thunderbird Twinspark’s new engine will be trouble free, it will also inherit the original Royal Enfield engine architecture. Here’s the Royal Enfield Thunderbird Twinspark advertisement

2) Royal Enfield’s Thunderbird Twinspark UCE would have lesser friction and wear-and-tear in mechanical parts of the engine, thus the Bullet’s new engine will have superior performance. The integrated engine or unit construction engine(UCE) is also expected to slightly reduce the metal cost for Royal Enfield.

3) Currently, Thunderbird model is powered by a lean-burn engine. TBTS (Thunderbird Twin Spark) model will launched soon. Royal Enfield may phase out the existing Thunderbird LB or keep it, company’s decision will be based on the customer response.

4) Royal Enfield is also working on a integrated engine with Fuel Injection technology for the export market. Royal Enfield is also working on a new design with the help of an independent design studio in UK. Probably next year, Indian market will also receive newly styled products from Royal Enfield.

5) Royal Enfield has invested around Rs50 crore for the new engines and designs. Royal Enfield hopes to lure new customers apart from the loyal Royal Enfield customers with the new products.

    Old is gold.

  2. Nagappan says:

dear sir, i ve baught a new thunderbird 350 cc at madurai. i have a disclosing of my front suspension ie.,it shakes and voubles while im braking at 70′s (disk brake) there is always an additional sound from the front wheel while im riding in 40′s or 30′s, is it a problem with the ball races of my front wheel spokes? im glad to ride my bike in outskirts but too emotional while driving in city… (i got my serious back pain….) i used to travel 100kms per day… so please accept my email and give back a answer to all my queries……! thanking you by, Nagappan.N

  3. gaurang sharma says:

sir, i have been waiting 4 d launch of d new royal enfield….thunderbird….since last 2 months…could you please tell me when is it expected 2 launch….and by when will it reach 2 d chandigarh showrooms… thanking you.. gaurang

  4. Inder Pal Singh says:

Hi Guys These pics are cool I have seen the bike in flesh at service station in Chandigarh. It looks and sounds good I am having thunderbird 2006 (oct) model and now I am tempted to buy this one :) Really cool stuff.

  5. dinesh says:

ya this new one is cool,,,,but that new engine will do any magic of increasing the mileage????? or it will suck more n more fuel for single digit mile distances??????????????????

  6. cyrusb says:

One glance and I’ve seen enough. Sure glad I have my classic 500. Clearly R.E doesn’t get it If that machine is for the American market.

  7. RagMan says:

I tend to see the unit construction engine as a horrendous leap for the company – It looks just cheap and wrong. Performance may be superior, but looks on a motorbike are all.

  8. siva says:

Hi friends anyone know the launch date of New thunderbird?

  9. prashant naik says:

hi all of u.i m also having thunderbirde 2003 model.i feel like real muscle doing with this bike but the major problem is there that “its valve makes really bad noise when gonn to be heated and one more problem is the oil pump of this bike got damad within 6-8000kms and then it really sound like :tang tang” this makes this bike some what bad biking “” so i wann know wheather royal enfield has solved this problem in new one and also tell me the prize thanking u…reply me plzzz

  10. prashant naik says:

i heared that “RE” also launching twin cylinder “v-2″ 750cc engine in thunderbirde>>>is it true>>??????

  11. LJRead says:

A little hard to take after looking at the traditional engine. It looks top heavy for one thing. It goes up like a mushroom. But if it works well, I suppose whose to complain?

  12. Bun Brown says:

In America, many older riders enjoy the classic looks of Royal Enfield bikes but we also put a high priority on low maintenance and depedability. That’s why the Electra X motor is more desirable. The new UCE (Unit Constructed Engine) should appeal to many more riders here provided Royal Enfield can capture the origional motor’s style and put it in the classic style bikes.

  13. Nagesh says:

Anyone know the launch date of New Thunderbird….?

  14. GURUNG Bijai Bir says:

what would be the kmpl of the new 350cc (Unit Constructed Engine) if, it will be fitted on the used Bullet 350 ? And the price of the UCE please.

  15. Rishi says:

gr8 bike it is my bro. has purchased it

  16. Charanjeet says:

Hey everyone, I m planning to buy Thunderbird since 6 months waiting for the New Engine to be launched. Do anyone have any idea when its expected to be launched and is it really worth waiting.

  17. sachin says:

I m planning to buy the new Thunderbird. Waiting for the New Engine to be launched. Can anyone pls tell me when its expected to be launched and is it really worth waiting.

  18. gary Z says:

hello folks jus wanna to know tat will thr be more better bikes frm enfield as mentioned above, if s will be worth buying them ?? i was really hurrying to buy the thunderbird 07 model may be shud wait ..plz reply thknz…

  19. dodge says:

f**k dude, that is one ugly looking engine!

  20. Thunder says:

Even i am also waiting from since 6months to buy ThunderBird with new engine,

  21. amit naik says:

this is the shittiest RE to ever run on the roads. I own a standard 350-1998 and wouldnt get paid to trade it for this toy.

  22. Amish says:

Indeed friends, the engine reeely looks bad, imagine such a tiny engine and gear box on a bike known for its rough and raw presence…this will just spoil the look. Lets see how it looks and fairs once out in the market…. They may screw the RE Market altogether….

  23. cyrusb says:

Its hard to believe this is the best they could come up with, after 50 years! A bad copy of a 70′s jap bike.

  24. Babul says:

I rethink whether to by the same or not after getting all these feedback.

  25. BikerVoodoo says:

My god – the UCE engine looks like it’s made in China. So squarish and cheapo. Why couldn’t they make it look retro like the NEW Triumph Bonnevilles AND still make it unitary and fuel-injected? They should make a bike like the EGLI Vincent – http://www.bikervoodoo.com/2008/04/02/egli-royal-enfield-super-bullet-624cc/

  26. venugopal says:

The new thunder bird would be expected to b released june 2nd week

  27. fas says:

They need to go FI Cheers http://thecarsandmore.blogspot.com/

  28. bummer says:

    ugly!

  29. gireesh says:

is the bike really coming after the court stayin the twin spark tech ?? bajaj claims tat it has the exclusive patents for the twin spark .. jus BS … REM rocks .!

  30. burzin says:

hey guys the new thunderbird is gonna b in d mumbai showrooms by the 20th of may although u ll get it ony after the launch on the 30th ……………

  31. Tejus says:

@ Nagappan if your bike shudders upon braking at speeds, there are a couple of things you need to check. 1. your forks might be loose, need bearings checked. 2. your disc brakes need to be machined because they are trued or rolling correctly. 3. check for pads wear on the disc brake and replace if necessary. @ everyone else afraid of something new guys, what enfields have been fed to the indian junta is clearly 1949 era. Royal Enfield of englad had gone unitary way back in the early 50s. i think its good to look ahead, and try new things. that engine displayed there is a what is called a prototype. the same engine with a slap of chrome and

  32. Tejus says:

coupled with a classic style will have everyone up and looking. its got hydraulic lifters people. does anyone know what that means? it means the end to tappet adjustment everytime you’re planning a trip ahead. Look ahead people, if not, look across the border, where life has stood still from 60 years ago, because they stopped looking ahead. Cheers! Tejus

  33. sahil says:

hi friends most of the RE owners ar not looking satisfied specially with thunderbird lets see whats new?????????? like ! i was planning to buy an electra 5s. as it has an good result in present but compairing to standard 350 it looks bit light. but if we compair machismo with electra5s it has an light stroke i.e sound as machismo has alluminium engine looks are good but electra 5s has an good strokes as it has fitted with an latest glasswool silencer grs suspension , i recond thunderbird machismos are the shitest bikes comp to std350.

  34. Motographer says:

The official unveiling date is nearing – probably within the next couple of weeks, if not earlier. Let’s see if the new heart shaped motor fares over the previous generation AVLs! 20 bhp out of a new 350cc thumper is still not enough but I am sure the torque will be better. I hope they have tricked out the clutch as well!

  35. -Vipin- says:

Hi all, I was desparately searching for details & photos of Twinspark thunderbird. It seems finally TS-TB is released… check it out here… http://www.indiaon2wheels.com/twin-spark-plug-royal-enfield-thunderbird/ -Vipin- Bangalore

  36. Vipin Blr says:

Hi, Read from a forum that the launch is delayed by “3 months”. Is it true? Anybody got any update? Read it here… http://www.xbhp.com/talkies/showthread.php?t=16460&page=2 -Vipin-

  37. Shyam says:

Hi all, I personally didn’t like the new model. It may give better performance but one would certainly loose on the riding pleasure only the oldies can give. I believe it’s the extra weight and chassis frame shape which gives a great road grip and balance. If you are looking for mileage Enfield is not for you. And for all those who are having various problems I suggest find an experienced mech. That’s the key if not one should not own an Enfield. Last but not least: Enfield is not for the weak hearted (considering the cost of maintanence and bulkness)

  38. Tushar says:

hi, I want to know that, after the launch of new thunderbird, is there old model of thunderbird also available in the showrooms ?

  39. Tushar says:

hi, I want to know that,is there old model of thunderbird also available in the showrooms after the launch of new model?

  40. supi says:

    Let the child grow.

  41. Vipin Blr says:

@Tushar The info from RE dealers states that Thundebird AVL engines will not be available, only UCE will be in the market. Also, the cast iron engines will be soon stopped.

  42. Vipin Blr says:

Hi friends, I got my RE Thunderbird TwinSpark (Magic Black color) delivered on Friday (06.06.2008) from HSR Services, Bangalore. The on-road price is INR 1,07,500/- in Bangalore. The Owner’s Manual is not available with the dealer yet, he tells that RE has not provided the manuals as the bike is not yet launched. Did anyone get an owner’s manual with the bike? This dealer has sold around 15 bikes, all without manuals. The machine is awesome, with the UCE engine. Since this is my first bike from the RE stable, it will not be good for me to compare it with any other RE bikes. I only have the experience of trying an old Thunderbird, that too for just for half a kilometer which made me take an instant decision to upgrade from my Yamaha Enticer and started saving money ;-). The power is great, considering that I come with a mere 11 bHp experience. I have the restrictions to ride within 45-50 kmph for the first 500kms. Once I reach the 4th gear, the bike acquires 50kmph and I have to control the speed. The kick start is easy with the auto-decompressor, feels most like any normal 4 stroke bike. Technical specifications not known as owner’s manual is not available. There are vibrations, and I am not sure whether they are the trademarks of a RE bike. The gears fall to false-neutrals, may be due to my lack of experience. I had a bitter experience too. On the second day, the Regulator-Rectifier unit burnt out. It was Sunday evening and I was really lucky that this happened near a local “Bullet” expert’s workshop. He helped me in identifying the RR unit problem, reconnected the battery and told me to take to the dealer for guarantee replacement. Next day I had been to the HSR Service Center, they started telling the usual story that “spares not available, leave ur bike here etc”. Luckily the Service Manager helped me by replacing it with an RR unit from a new bike. Hope this will not konk again. The spanner which came with the bike broke when it fell down; imagine what if these happens to you during a trip, in the middle of no-where. Well, an RE owner should be prepared to face all these kinda issues, right? Any other experiences/suggestions? -Vipin-

  43. Pradeep says:

God Save RE! Something is seriously wrong with these guys. Who designed the engine? Same guy who sketches Thomas the Tank Engine?? They should have simply kept the old engine which was great for a cruiser and should have taken care of the oil leakage problem… Sad.

  44. srinivas says:

Hai Guys the new thunder bird was launched in chennai today 18-06-2008, This is for you all guys

  45. amit chaudhary says:

hey it seems there r quite a few changes apart 4m d big one…..graphics part have been paid little attention…silencers has been touched upon……..

  46. Sambya Samanta says:

man it really sux!!!where is the royal enfield heritage? it looks like any other motor!!! they should have sorted out the leakage problem first!!! SAD

  47. Ajith says:

I am waiting for months after its launch for the bike to hit the markets in kerala but unfotunately the time has not yet come. Whenever i enquire about the bike in showrooms they reply that it will hit the markets in three weeks time. Can you reply me the time it will hit the showrooms of kerala for i want the bike.

  50. Sam says:

My cousin owns a 70′s model Bullet Standard The standard is a real macho bike when compared to this new baby from Enfield God know’s if this baby can handle the rugged Indian roads as its ancestors

  51. Rajendra says:

That’s a good question conidering that puny 100cc bikes mange to survive

  52. Vipin Blr says:

@Rajendra All the best wishes for the new TBTS. Take great care while in the run-in 2000 kms. His name is Shivaiah. -Vipin Blr -

  54. nikhil says:

whatever you say about new engines or better perfomance and all that crape dude nothing is better than the original std 350 man the new bikes are more like namesake bullets i have rode every bullet model in india and i have always felt that only the machismo 500 and the std 350 feels like bullet the other models are for pussies who can take the responsibility of owning a bullet and want a quiet smooth ride

  55. david says:

comments about its ugly i get that comment about every bike i buy because i buy basic daily drivers like a 1976 bmw r60/6 a 2002 mz rt125 comment from others toooo small so i guess i will just have to wait and see what they sell here in the united states in 2009 or 2010 as i want a reliable daily driver that does not kill my pocket at the gas pump when a bike cost me a lot for parts or gas then its ugly dave

  56. H says:

  61. arun says:

respected sir, my english is not good i am gonna write in hinglish. i bought a second hand royal enfield thunderbird 2002 model last month.tab se front shockers mien se oil leak ho raha hai and i am worried about that kahin esa na ho ki wo koi accident ka reason na bane.or bike mein jo awaz ati hai wo enfield ke sound ko match nahi karti.pls meri in pblms ka answer se asap kioki miene inka jald se jald niptara chahta hun thanks arun gandhi

  62. Gaurav says:

Hi .i recently purchased the thunderbird in january and now bike has run 2200 kms…oil leaks….fuel efficiencyy is also very low around 34……loosening of partsof bike,,,,vibration too much…exceedin than the bullet….i contacted the showroom mechanics for the problems…regarding noise of the engine..they just say it;s normal…but it;s isn;t.they don;t know anythin about this engine…..on company.s site they say that hydraulic tappets reduce noise..but it;s makin noise like that of a diesel engine…it doesn;t even hear like a petrol bike…if any one could have driven old taurus bullet diesel could see the resembelance except that was smoot…i feel my money;s got wasted…better had bought a standard or electra…bullet…or go for karizma or pulsar 220…. this advice is to everyone who wants to buy a thunderbird twinspark people are sayin that most of the bikes have been sold through internet publicity..now i will post on the net the real problems I;m facing…. Thanx for your CHEAP .Slow and tiresome Service of the royal enfield`.. very Bad experience …

  63. vasanth says:

hi i own a thunder bird 2004 model i waiting for fuel injection model when it abailable in indian market and howmuchits price??????

  64. SANJEEV KAWAN says:

remember guys……..standard model is standard no model can beat it engine its engine and chasis and all….. royal enfield engineers should not change or modify the basic standard model(4-s, 350cc and 500cc) i think the new one engine(twin-spark) is nothing if compare with old one. i have purchased electra-5s that is also modified it is also not upto the mark. so standard is the best

Hi guys, I had bought this dream bike almost 6 weeks back and driven about 1000KMs only as need of the engine to smoothen piston working. I love the mellow down thump of Thunderbird and feel like a king on this bike. Yes initially leakage problem was there but been rectified by their engineers. In real sense slogan stands for this brand only i.e. Neighbours Envy Owners Pride……..as far as average is concern around 38KMS per KM I am geting…..not to forget first service is due now….very very glad to get this super dynamic bike……sanjay Bidani

  75. bulleteer says:

Guys lmme tell u smthing.. it is a good bike with all problems like..oil leakage..front shocker problem..nd sounds…nd vibs…but, tell u what…evry single bikes gt these kinda issues..if u see the hero honda bikes, yamaha,TVS an all, i prev had a hero honda hunk..it too dd hv oil leaks nd vibs nd shohabsorber probs, …..i mean…… where the hell in India u can find a bike with no such kinda probs….look at the roads….i bet even Hearly will face such problems 1nce it flourishes in the Indian Market..!!:) moreover, all u guys keep sain that Std.model was better it was..no Qtn abt it…but it also had evn more problems thn the TBTS..thats wht my 10 yrs Bull reaserch tells me..u dnt believe…find out…!! Q-(How.??) A- vist the bullet service station or the on road garages…u will see the..u ll find more Std model thn TBTS and new Classic.:s now, if u say on the basis on longivity..thn i ll say that evry thing tht can b tkn a good care of can last for days..so, dont jst start livin on wht others say, jst creats complications nothin more..!! i gt a TBTS an it gt all these probs that i mentioned..so what, if it was a Std model, wld i hv thought the same..!!

  76. bulleteer says:

The additional information is always keep in mind….DO NOT RIDE IT LIKE PULSARs or a Sport bike..for if u do it ll cause oil leakage..and that is confirm….!! Ride it smoothly..shift gears as per speed…1st-0-5 / 2nd-6-15 / 3rd-15-30 / 4th-30-45 / thn carry on rest in 5th….for a good milage….!! while going in top gear, dont suddenly change down and give instant throttle (like Pulsar)..give a sec or 2 to stabelise thn throttle….gives way to good milage/engine stays good avoid clutch as much as u can ,and only apply it before it starts jerking….clutch plate stays as good as new. dont change gears frequently….engine gets heatedup….while in crowded places-shift to 2nd gear and do not repeat do not use clutch until necessary….saves the clutch cable.. do not lose your heart for engine leaks of fork leaks or any other thing….always remember leakage is the Birthright for all bullets….so ?it and enjoy it, cause not all gets the chance to ride a bull.
