Tata Aria Review

Tata, home grown auto manufacturer had launched its new first four wheel drive crossover on October 11, 2010. The new Aria comes with the combination of a Multi Utility Vehicle and Sports Utility Vehicle. The company claims that Tata Aria captures all possible attributes in every aspect and it is believed to one of the most comfortable, spacious and cool designed car.

Tata Aria Models

The Aria comes with four diesel models and there is no petrol option for the car. The models available are listed below.

1) Tata Aria Pure LX 4X2 – Rs.10,17,611
2) Tata Aria Pleasure 4X2 – Rs.12,20,001
3) Tata Aria Pleasure Fabric – Rs.14,24,997
4) Tata Aria Pride – Rs.14,95,001

 The price details of the car may vary according to the regions and the Tata Aria AT is one of the model which is not yet launched and it is expected to be around Rs.15,00,000.

Tata Aria Engine Details

The Aria is a seven seater premium car which is loaded by a 2.2L Direct Injection Common Rail diesel engine. The engine of Aria delivers the maximum power of about 138 BHP @ 4,000 RPM and maximum torque of about 320 NM @ 1700-2700 RPM respectively. This works on the basis of 32 bit electronic control unit and it has an unique Variable Turbine Technology ensuring better power and torque. Aria engine is mated with a five speed manual transmission helpful for handling and control of the engine air requirements. The powertrain comes with the 16 valves and a dual mass flywheel which separates torsional vibrations from the powertrain offering a NVH free environment in the cabin.

Acceleration, Mileage and Fuel Economy

The acceleration and fuel economy of the Tata Aria is good and decent in which the vehicle can be able to touch the barrier of 0-100 kmph in just 14 seconds with the maximum speed of nearly 162 kmph. Since the power and torque is very high it results in excellent acceleration and fuel economy. The car can generate a healthy mileage of about 13.51 kmpl which is quite impressive. The engine of the car assures less emission and enhanced fuel efficiency apart from delivering amazing power and torque.

Design and Engineering

Tata Aria Interiors

Tata Car comes with excellent interiors while compared with other Tata cars. The quality of the interiors and the fit and finish is really better than any other cars. The Aria comes with a decent dashboard in three types of interior shades including Black and Plum, Black and Black, Black and Beige etc. These interior shades are available in fabric and full leather upholstery which is eye-catchy. The Aria has plush interiors in order to impress the youths. The steering wheel of the car is of tilt adjustable and it has four spokes with mounted audio and phone controls. It has an advanced instrument panel located behind the steering wheel which is same as the one in MotoGP bike with two dials of black and white combination. The door handles of the car is of chrome finished which adds glitter to the gold. Tata Aria features a high tech multimedia LCD which is kept in the middle of the dashboard which is quite good. The car is well equipped with a 2 DIN stereo audio system and it has a GPS navigation system with LCD screen helps in locating the destination. The dual air conditioning system of the car comes with automatic climate control and cruise control, dimming roof lamps etc. In order to provide more convenience to the passengers, it is designed with mini glove boxes which is useful for keeping mobiles and other small materials. Bottle holder in door pockets are also offered in the car. The car is very comfortable and luxurious in which seven members can accommodate without any trouble. The seating arrangement is very comfortable with the foldable second and third row seats. The storage compartment is very good in Aria provided right behind the third row. The car has several features includes reverse guide system with the reverse guide camera which is useful to park the vehicle offering the view of the rear vehicles or any troubles. The car offers enough legroom, headroom, shoulderroom with the adjustable headrest, lumbar support adjustment, height adjustments etc. In addition to all, it has magazine holder, cup holder, rain sensing auto wipers, puddle lamp, electronically adjustable and foldable ORVMs, bonnet auto lift, sunvisor extenders etc.

Tata Aria Exteriors

Tata Aria posses not only good interiors but also it has stylish exteriors. At first, it looks like a MUV with its wide sporty wheels and wheel arches, aggressive front fascia but also adds SUV appearance. It comes with a stylish upper front grille with turn indicators. The front turn indicators are kept along with automatically adjustable ORVMs. It comes with sophisticated headlamps with projector beam and the bonnet looks similar to the other Tata vehicles. The company logo is also placed at the front of the car with chrome finish adds more style to the car. Along with the head lamp, the car has bright front fog lamps in round shape. The car has body coloured door handles, bumpers, wheel arches, rub rails and chrome waistline on windows makes it distinctive and it gives uniformity to the car. Some other refined features of the car includes wide dual elliptical exhausts, tail lamps, rear wiper autowipe, tail gate etc. The car is incorporated with five spoke 17 inch alloy wheels with tubeless radial tyres of size 235/65 R 17 and the base variant comes with 16 inch steel wheels. The Tata Aria has a wheelbase of about 2850 mm and ground clearance of about 200 mm which proves its off-roading capability. The external dimensions of the car includes length 4780 mm, width 1895 mm and height 1780 mm respectively.

Braking and Handling

The Tata Aria comes with an advanced braking and handling system in which the front brakes of the car is of Twin Port Caliper ventilated type where as the rear brakes are of disc type. The advanced braking system such as Anti Lock Braking System is available along with the Electronic Stability Programme system. This is the first Tata car having the ESP facility. The suspensions of the car is also too good in which the front suspension is of independent wishbone and 5 link anti-roll bar at the rear suspension. The efficient braking system with ESP option and standard ground clearance assures error free driving.

Tata Aria Safety Features

Tata Aria comes with lot of safety features and it undergoes European crash tests . The Aria is designed with an advanced safety and handling features such as six airbags (driver, front passenger, side and curtain airbags), ABS with ESP, Traction Control System, Cruise Control and some standard controls ensures safety. Seat belts are provided for all the passengers in Tata Aria. In addition, reverse guide system and fog lamps are also available for cautioning the driver and insist him while driving. The Tata Aria 4x4 has been fully packed with 4x4 Adapterra Torque-on-Demand System, which senses terrain conditions and automatically delivers better torque in varying proportions to assist off-road driving as well as stability on normal roads. It is important to note that some features which are present in top end variant won’t be in base variant.

Pleasure to drive yet less performance

It is suitable for a large family,2nd row is good,the rear row is better,when it comes with handling,the gearshifts are smooth however it takes a longthrough.Ther is a turbolag too.

Good for long drive in terms of comfort,but not in mileage,because the mileage comes about 11kmpl in the city drive and 14kmpl on the highways

According to my view everything is great.The areas of improvement could be done at the rear since it looks so boxy and at the speedometer that gives a feel of being built with cheap quality
