Maruti Alto Updates
August 4,2010 - Maruti Suzuki India,the largest car maker in the country Iaunched the advanced version of its largest selling model Alto named the Alto K10.It is featured with an advanced 998 cc K-series engine offering a great mileage of 20.2 KMPL.It is embedded with additional features like improved suspension, cable-type transmission, superior brake system and more space for passengers and luggage.
July 16,2009 - Maruti Suzuki introduced the CNG kit for its small car Alto at a price of Rs 43,545.The Alto with the CNG kit holds a 12-kg tank which accommodates Compressed Natural Gas of 7-7.5 kg.
April 11,2003 - Maruti Udyog launched a special limited edition of its premium small car Alto LX.The two variants of the 800cc Alto Celebration car was priced around Rs.3.02 lacs and Rs.3.22 lacs respectively.One of its variant features an electronic power steering and hence it is little bit costlier than the other.It possess special colour,coordinated interiors,central locking,aluminium coated speedometer dials and two-tone steering with leather cover.Its exterior features body-coloured bumpers,a chrome-plated garnish on the grille and stylish body graphics.

Design and Engineering
The conventional “two box” small hatch Alto holds a transverse-mounted engine in the front portion that generates power to the front wheels.Its improved features in the new facelift are lights, grille and bumper.It is attributed with standard ventilated disc brakes and McPherson struts provides a very good front suspension.It has a good reliability,quality and greater fuel efficiency.It is mainly designed in small size to meet the K-car regulations in Japan.Alto is favoured by many people due to its low cost.
Interiors
Alto features a shrinken interior with a tiny boot and a very small legroom at its rear part.It features narrow rear seats in which two persons can be seated in a decent manner.Maruti Alto holds ample storage section with the availability of cup holders, front door pockets, glove box,etc.It has a better rotary air-con controls but has a worst plastic quality.It also features poor equipment levels and even power windows are not present in it.As it is a low cost car,good quality interiors cannot be expected from it.
Engine Capacity and Mileage
Maruti Alto features a three cylinder,12-valve engine which generates a power of 47PS at 6200rpm and affords a torque of 62Nm at 3000rpm.It holds five speed transmission.Its small compact size and its light weight engine endeavours an alto mileage of 19kmpl.
Performance and Fuel Economy
The older Maruti Alto is packed with petrol engine with a displacement of 796cc. The car is also endowed with MPFI (Multi Point Fuel Injection) supply system that provides clear flow of fuel and hence makes the performance of the car mind blowing. The car engine is equipped with 5 Speed Manual Transmission that helps in easy gear shifting without making any noise.The smallest light weight engine of Alto is a very good fuel saver and hence it features a best in-class fuel efficiency.
Ride and Handling
Maruti Alto offers a reasonable body control and is well suited for heavy traffics.The long springs and high profile tyres present in it helps in good riding and its brakes also carry out a good job.But its major disadvantage is that it will not offer a smooth steering and the the EPS on the LXi creates a feel of disconnection.Also it has a power lack.

Alto LX is the upgraded version of Maruti Alto which possess AC with rotary control, tinted glasses, ac with heater, floor front console with cup holders, etc.
Maruti Alto LXi
LXi is the higher-end model of Maruti Alto with extra features of integrated rear seat head restraints, remote fuel lid opener, electronic power steering, fabric seats, etc.,
Maruti Alto K10 LXI
This is the base variant of the new Alto K10 that is equipped with 998cc, K10 engine and also has some advanced features. It comes with improved suspension, new cable-type transmission, superior brake system and more knee-room for rear seat passengers, etc.
Maruti Alto K10 VXI
This top end variant of the new Alto K10 is glorified with most of the features of the base variant.It holds some additional features like front power windows, three spoke power steering wheel, key off reminder, 13 inch tubeless tyres, front fog lamps, etc.
Maruti Alto Green LXi (CNG)
The new green Alto appears with dual fuel system-petrol/CNG- that agitates a max power of 39.4 PS at 6200 rpm and generates a high torque of 54 Nm at 3000 rpm. The suspension system and body of the car is modified for CNG system load.

Maruti Alto has received the Overdrive Awards New Delhi - 10 January 2005 in the year 2004,J.D. Power Asia Pacific 2005 India Initial Quality award in the year 2005 and J.D. Power Asia Pacific 2004 India Initial Quality award in the year 2004.
In addition to the above,it was also awarded the TNS TCS study in the years 2007 and 2008.
