China's SAIC holds 50% stake in GM India, and is planning to launch its range of products devloped by the JV between SAIC and GM(Global). Since India and China have similar markets, with similar expectations from a car's utility point of you, its a wise decision fro GM-SAIC to pitch its cars in our country.
The first car from the Chinese soil to drift into India, will be the Chevorlet Sail. Just like the Swift-Dzire, Sail will be available in both hatchback and sedan models. GM India will power the Sail using a 1.4 L petrol engine and the 1.3 L SDE diesel engine. Sail will directly attack the Swift and its likes, in India. While pricing and fuel economy are crucial factors for selling volume cars, GM India, would hopefully loclaise the car's parts, as much as possible and thus price at competitively to gain upper hand in the over crowded hatchback car segment of India. You can expect the Sail to be launched by GM in 2012.
