What else would motivate Mahindra than the unexpected profit run during the last quarter- 40.30%. This prompted M&M to be more reasonable and allocated Rs8600 crore for its five year project. The company’s President said a sum of Rs5600 crore from this will be for Chakan plant and for the capex project the company has got Rs2500 crore as surplus fund. The Chakan plant will get expansions on phases, said the company’s ED. This follows the company’s earlier announcement that Rs4500 crore would be allocated for the Chakan plant. This followed the construction of a new plant in Chakan for producing all products of
the company. The 700-acre plant is capable of delivering 3 lakh units per year which include Maximmo and Navistar trucks and SUVs for export to the US.

The net profit has yielded Rs562.39 crore during the Q1 of 2010 against Rs400.85 for the corresponding period of 2009. This comes from the net income of the period Rs5160.10 crore against Rs4242.59 crore with an increase of 21.63%. however, the company has a debt of Rs3000 crore including foreign funding. The profit figure could be arrived, according to the company’s President for finance, by additional source of cost control. The overall performance of the company in Q1 of 2010 stood at the sale of 53948 units against 48720 units which showed a growth of 10.73%.He clarified that if there would be any fall in the future it may be the rising cost of the materials.

New models from Mercedes Benz to shield the competition

By initiating the second shift in its Chennai facility, Mercedes Benz is making plans to offer new models. This comes in the wake of fierce competition in luxury car segment which is likely to increase by 50% this year. The company’s Director for sales and marketing said the new models- SUV and under performance models- will easily fill the vacuum in the market, reminding
16 models offered during the last 7 months. He anticipated the boost in the luxury car market in coming months, pushing aside the growth of standard car market(20%growth). He focused that the sale of luxury cars may get the new figure of 13000 units from the last year’s 8500 units.

The luxury car segment moves on the brand conception rather on price, he clarified and he set aside the claim that Mercedes is facing a task against BMW and Audi. He pointed out the sale figure- 2450 units during Jan-June 2010- which reflected the supremacy of Mercedes in the segment. However, Mercedes had to succumb to number two slot from the top after the sale volume of BMW increased in 2009. He cited the lack of brands in Mercedes E class , which gave 40$ share to its sale volume, as the main reason for it. BMW took advantage by selling 300 more units than Mercedes Benz. Mercedes has been regaining its share- sale of 1023 units during the first six months after the launch of new models under E class. Sale of other models too pricked up, 995 units of C-class, 266 units of S-class, 93 units of M class, 47 units of GL and 25 other units. To enable the smooth flow of its vehicles in the market, Mercedes will offer financial assistance to the customers through its finance wing from its apex body.

Maruti

In a bid to thwart any more slippery in its stronghold of the car market, Maruti Suzuki is in a drive to launch five new CNG versions within a single day. Recently Maruti faced a fall in its share of 50%, an unprecedented fall in its long history, during the Q1 of 2010-11. The CNG versions will be available from its fast selling models like Alto [images], Estilo [images], Eeco [images], SX4 [images] and Wagon R [images]. All these cars will be fitted with factory finishing CNG, said its chief Marketing Manager. The cars will be launched on a single day sometime in August to offer the variety, he added. He explained that the launch will mark a new technological concept and
not cars. In addition there will be two more versions of Alto with 1.0lit K-series engine. He said this new versions will boost the sale of Alto by 25% for its special features.

Maruti is facing a good stint with Alto, by selling 20000 monthly units which made the toll to 14 lakhs during the period of 10 years. The BS IV version of Alto was launched in April along with the 800cc F series engine. He said the pricing of new Alto will be on the range between the top version of Alto and the basic version Estilo. The price range of existing Alto models is between Rs2.29 lakhs and Rs2.81 lakhs whereas the basic Estilo costs Rs3.20 lakhs and the top version is Rs4.10 lakhs. According to the company sources, the Alto K version is designed to give 20.2 lit mileage on Automotive Research Association of India standards. Alto is presently available on retro fitted CNG versions and Martui markets dual fuel (petrol and LPG)mode in 800 and Omni. This preceded LPG version of WagonR which had been since withdrawn by Maruti after the launch of new version. Maruti’s real stint in the car market had been 55% in overall sale of 15 lakh annual units taking its own sale volume of 2, 06,377 units for the three month period ending June 2010. The overall sale of cars during this period was 433641 units.

Honda launched VFR1200F in India

Honda launched its new super bike, VFR1200F, at ex-showroom price of Rs 17.5 lakh in Delhi today. Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India President and CEO Shinji Aoyama has said that VFR1200F is a fun bike manufactured at the Honda’s most advanced facility and the mother plant of global motorcycles – the Kumamoto factory in Japan. VFR1200F is a concept driven by extensive customer needs .

Honda’s VFR1200F is powered by a Liquid-cooled 4-stroke UNICAM 76° V-4 engine 1237 cc that generates a peak power of 170 hp (127 kW) and a maximum torque of 129 Nm. The transmission is Six-speed automatic with two modes and manual mode (VFR1200F with Dual Clutch Automatic Transmission). This superbike sports front dual full-floating 320mm discs with CBS six-piston calipers with ABS and rear single 276mm disc with CBS two-piston caliper with ABS brakes.

Hyundai to launch i10 facelift

Hyundai flagship hatchback “i10” is due for a facelift. i10 facelift is Hyundai answer to new competitors like Ford Figo, Nissan Micra and Chevrolet Beat. Though its facelift, the changes will be in tune with customer expectations. The first and major change is the front fascia – i10 will get a new front bumper and sleek headlamps. i10 grille will also get a minor treatment. The wing mirrors (ORVM) gets a new design. The side profile will remain unchanged. On the rear, the styling of rear bumper is set for a change. The most important change however is the new tail lamps which is so appealing (as per the people who have seen the change). Interiors too gets a facelift with blue back-lit for music player. Overall the i10 facelift is said to have 86 new parts (including 8 engine parts). Hyundai i10 facelift may hit the market by Diwali season with a nominal price hike.
