Honda Jazz – Review

Pictorial review of Honda jazz – interiors

1) Honda Jazz: Jazz employs MacPherson strut suspension at the rear and torsion beam rear suspension at the rear. Honda has optimised the suspension to suit the Indian road condition. On the road, Jazz absorbs shock with ease. Even when you go off the road the vibrations are minimal. At higher speed the ride remains composed and part of the credit goes to comfortable seats.

2) Honda Jazz: Civic-style dash bits gives a upmarket look to this hatch. Honda’s characteristic three spoke steering wheel has made into jazz as well sports audio controls. On the face A/C vents and CD player (not the USB) is quiet easy to access even for the one who is around 5.5″ because of the high seating position. Ergonomics is good and the chunky knobs adds substance to the dashboard. The A/C is effective but Goa is not the right place to test it so we reserve our comment. Road noise is evident inside the cabin. The engine becomes noisy when rev hard and it gets transferred into the cabin as well.

3) Honda Jazz: The seats embraces all the body parts well and offers support. The three dimensional molding takes the credit. The leg room and head room is ample both at the front and the rear. Even with a 6″ foot driver, you can stretch your legs at the back. The three at the back is possible even for a long trip. But fat adults have to squeeze their shoulders as the shoulder room is just about adequate. All the seats features an adjustable head rest. The door gets a nice beige trim but its sure to get sandy. Jazz offers good visibility for all passenger and the cabin gets enough sunlight. It not claustrophobic because of high theatrical type seating position.

4) Honda Jazz: Truly speaking the Jazz is not a hatch its a mini multi purpose vehicle. Even the Honda globally promotes the jazz for its versatility, flexibility and adaptability. It’s not a regular Honda there is more emphasize on comfort and convenience. Your spouse and kids will surely love this hatch.  The car is bigger in every significant dimension but its just under 4m in length to comply small car excise duty.  But the Honda’s incredible packaging ability frees up space for occupants rather than the mechanicals. The fuel tank is chucked under the front seats instead of regular under boot position to create room for rear passengers. The spacious cabin is effectively used. You can stow whatever you wish.

5) Honda Jazz: In front of co-driver, there is two glove box with proper lids. Though the boxes are not deep to hold a laptop both arevery functional. Inside the upper glove box there is pen holder. Two cup holders on the extreme edges and in front of AC vents is sure to earn your praise. Really smart isn’t it! An under-seat box which can be accessed when the rear seat is hinged up is meant to store important papers.  Coming to the ‘magic seat’ that’s how Honda calls the Jazz seating. There are three modes – tall, utility and long to suit your convenience. Hinge up the rear seat squabs to create a storage space in the middle of the car. In this mode, you can just walk-in and walk out of the car. But that’s not the purpose, its meant to transport rose plant from ooty to your destination also to take your pet to swim. The cargo space is brilliant even when the rear seats are up it is 384 litres. But fold the rear seats flat at the pull of a handle it zoom up to 563litres and it can be further increased to 884 litres by folding the co-driver seat. The utility and long mode as the name suggest is meant to transport longer objects

6) Honda Jazz: is available in three variants – jazz, jazz active and jazz sport. The base end gets integrated audio system, steering mounted audio system, 60:40 foldable rear seats, tiltable steering column, power windows and power steering. The instrument panel tells you instant fuel consumption, average fuel consumption, range and trip in addition to the usual warning lamps. On the safety front, Jazz gets dual airbags, ABS with brake assist and EBD.  Overall the jazz is quiet decently equipped but it is utilitarian. Features like dual tone interiors, climate control, electrically adjustable ORVM and cooled glovebox could have justified the premium price it commands.

First Impression: Like any other Honda, Jazz comes with a impeccable fit and finish, solid build quality and strong brand value. Also, it handles and rides well. Most importantly it has immense versatility and class leading cabin space that segment buyers would surely appreciate. Though we could not give you the fuel efficiency figure, we expect the mileage to be decent. On the flip side, the engine lacks is noisy and lacks the necessary low end grunt. Also, it is utilitarian and devoid few nice features. Overall, jazz might be an another winner for Honda. But the huge price tag and strong competitors like Maruti Suzuki Ritz and upcoming Punto would make the success tougher for jazz in this segment.
