Tata Nano directed towards Taiwan

Taiwan, the world’s top most hub for iPods and green technologies is getting a new guest from Tata – the world’s cheapest car Nano [images]. The information was disclosed by the Chairman of Taiwan’s TECO group with a hint that the car would have a modifications for the domestic applications, especially environmental set up. The move comes in the wake of the Chairman’s last visit in January where in he had a test drive of the sensational car from Tata. He was surprised at the speed category, up to 100km/hr, of the car and expressed the prospects in Taiwan. The country has found the potential of India and since Taiwan happens to be the 17th largest economy market in the world, seeks to have an alliance with Tata in Taiwan market. This was corroborated by the director –general of India-Taipei Association, functioning as a consular office in Taiwanese capital.

The self-ruled democratic island in Chinese territory has $17000 per capita income despite middle class segment choosing economic cars as the replacement of scooters. This slot will be best fit in by Nano which saves lot of space for parking but has better space within. The basic model of Nano costs $2500 and Tata is chalking out its strategy to penetrate the global market apart from a model for Europe and the US. The constraint of emission standards is the most irking factor for Tata in these markets and hence needs to modify the car suitably. The Chairman of TECO made it clear that in addition to the pricing, Taiwan market expects the car to suit the local needs and specifications. At this juncture Tata is provided with the safety specifications and Tata has to modify it either in India or in Taiwan, he said.

Honda Siel has at last found the track for its growth through the launch of small cars. The company aims to double its growth with this small car during 2011-12. India has become the second fastest growing market and Honda eyes on reaching the one million customers in another five years. For this, localizing the components will be the key factor, as disclosed by the new CEO of the company. Investment of Rs784crore has been allocated for expansion of powertrain at Tapukara in addition to a frame assembly unit and expansion of R&D.

He said Honda aims to set a trend of being a household name in the Indian market in another five years. To meet this target the company is making aggressive proposals for customers of tier I and II he added. The concept of large localization is mooted to reduce the price and lessen the negative impact of currency value.
