Mahindra to setup a new plant in Chennai

Mahindra and Mahindra will soon set-up a plant in Chennai, Tamilnadu.
“Mahindra and Mahindra has confirmed investment in the state and this would take the total car manufacturing capacity in Tamil Nadu to 1.4 million units per annum from the current 1.3 million units,” said M. Velmurugan, executive vice chairman, Guidance Bureau, Industries Department.

Remember, Mahindra-Renault-Nissan tried to build a manufacturing facility in Chennai. But Mahindra pulled out and said it would build a new plant on its own. Earlier, Mahindra said the plant would manufacture tractors but now it seems to be a passenger car plant

Nissan Micra Diesel bookings open

As we reported to you few weeks back, Nissan is all set to introduce Micr diesel in few days from now. Nissan has started booking for Micra diesel across its showrooms in India. Nissan claims Micra diesel to return a mileage of 23.08kmpl under CMVR standard test conditions. Micra diesel is expected to come with 1.5LdCi engine developing 65bhp of max power.

Piaggio India to launch small car

Following the lines of Tata Motors, Piaggio India plans to launch an ultra low cost small car. The small car is expected to  be priced around Rs1.5lakhs and will hit the market in three years. Piaggio’s small car might be powered by an 300 -500cc engine and will be a three seater.  Piaggio currently sells ape, ape mini truk and few more products in india. Piaggio’s could use the ape platform for its small car to make it more cost competitive.

Piaggio small car (codenamed as NT3) is just 2.4m length,1.5m wider and 1.6m taller. Piaggio NT3 claims to capable of achieving mileage of 30kmpl.  Piaggio small car concept – NT3 gets Mcpherson strut suspension at the front and omega type suspension at the rear. Remember, Piaggio group plans to re-launch Vespa brand of scooters in 2011.

Bajaj to launch Ninja 650R in India in 2011

Following the stupendous success of Ninja 250cc, Bajaj plans to bring the higher displacement Ninja to India.  The good news is Ninja 650R will hit the Bajaj probiking showrooms before the end of April 2011. Bajaj tasted success with the Ninja 250cc launched a year back. Bajaj has sold more than 1000 units of Ninja 250cc which many believe priced on the premium side.

Ninja 650R  powered by a twin cylinder 650cc engine produces 71bhp at 8500rpm and 66Nm at 7000rpm. The liquid cooled, four valve per cylinder engine comes with a 6-speed manual transmission. Ninja 650cc also comes with dual discs brakes at the front. Ninja 650cc will join its sibling Ninja 250cc and is expected to be priced between Rs6-7 lakhs.

Tata to launch new Sumo Victa and Sumo Grande Mark II

Recently, we reported you about Tata upcoming line-up which includes a facelifted safari, new pick-up, new safari and new indica vista. Now comes few more details. In an aggressive push to regain its share in the SUV segment, Tata plans to tweak its sumo victa and sumo grande mark II. Tata once dominated the entry level SUV segment with its sumo series lost slowly its share to Mahindra Bolero. But the company wishes to redo it with plenty of new offering and upgrading existing products. Tata now eyes 70000 unit in next 1-1.5 years in the SUV segment.

The new Sumo Victa is expected with a serious facelift to take on the segment leader Mahindra Bolero. Sumo Grande Mark II will also receive tweaks to fight against Mahindra Xylo. The next gen safari which tata plans (internally known as Safari 18) will also hit the market in 2011.  2011 would be make or break year for Tata motors atleast in the SUV segment

Volkswagen to launch Vento 1.4L

Volkswagen plans a more affordable Vento to expand its range and target a wide range of customers. Volkswagen vento which is now pitted against Honda City and Hyundai Verna will get a cheaper 1.4L engine. Vento 1.4L will allow the Volkswagen to offer the car at affordable price.  The 1.4L petrol vento will target the customers of Manza, Fiesta and Dzire too. With 95PS of power and 134Nm of torque, Vento 1.4L will appeal to mileage conscious customers. Volkswagen Vento 1.4L is expected to hit the market in 2011.
