Honda’s new sporty Unicorn Vs Hero Honda’s CBZ Xtreme

Sorry! Pulsar and Apache lovers, this is going to be the shoot out of a feud between brothers. Until 2006 Honda Motor Company and the Munjals(owner of hero group) are equal owners of Hero Honda (they own 26 per cent each), in the past 22 years the Japanese have allowed their partners a free hand in running the company. But the honeymoon between Honda and Hero group seems to be over. Now the Japanese major – Honda wishes to tap the Indian market alone. The message was clearly sent to Hero group when the Takedagawa was made the charge for Honda motor India. Both the groups are launching competitive products in the same segment. There is a stiff competition between Honda Activa and Hero Honda Pleasure. Honda is planning to launch series of 100cc bikes in which Hero Honda is the leader. Hero group has its own plan; it plans to enter the more profitable car market soon. Let’s see one of the fierce competitions between these groups in the form of Honda’s sporty Unicorn and Hero Honda’s CBZ X-Treme. Who knows this strategy by these groups may be to sideline Bajaj.

Note: Both the new versions of Unicorn and CBZ X-Treme are revamped in studio not in the factory

Design and Engineering:

Styling and Power are the deciding factor in the 150cc segment. Recently both these manufacturers are widely criticized for their sticker jobs i.e. their new variants do not feature new engine or any other major revamp in design but with new graphics. Seeing their new models the criticism seems to be true. The new Honda sporty unicorn shed its multi colour and embraces two tone setting with black front forks, clear lens indicator (now seen in most two wheelers) and new sleek graphics. Honda’s limited/special grand prix (GP) version features orange mag wheels (red one is seen in recently launched Karizma) and new graphics. Sadly the new treatment for the unicorn is too little and too late to woo customers.

Hero Honda hopes to revive the CBZ brand with its new CBZ X-Treme. The CBZ was an extremely popular and stylish bike of its times when it was launched in 1999, the bike had no competition in the 150cc segment. But in 2007 Hero Honda knows that it is not going to be easy for to do it again. Hero Honda has concentrated much on design for its new CBZ X-Treme. Both unicorn and CBZ borrows many design cues and features from Karizma. The instrument pod and the overall headlamp assembly of the X-Treme have a more trapezoidal shape looking like Karizma. The new turn indicators have been integrated into the headlamp housing and the tail lamp cluster features a segmented stop and brake light section with the turn indicators built into a single unit that wraps around the brake light’s bottom side. Both these features will help you to save your indicators in busy road condition. LEDs have been used replacing the conventional bulbs and together with the new Bajaj Pulsar 180 DTS-i becomes one of the first bikes to feature this kind of lighting at the rear. X- Treme also features split grab rail first of its kind in indian bikes (also featured in recently launched Pulsar 200cc)

Both X-Treme and Unicorn features a large fuel tank which is more practical with a generous knee recess even for tall riders. Both these bikes also features black alloy wheels, black engine, black chain cover and three gauges – engine rpm meter, speedometer and fuel gauge. Use of chrome on side panels of both X-Treme and Sporty Unicorn demands a compulsive look from the pedestrian. CBZ X- Treme features body coloured rear view mirrors while the new sporty Unicorn retains the same black theme for its mirror. Finally, Unicorn is conservative in styling, whereas X-Treme’s look is stimulating. Also X- Treme gets higher rating than sporty Unicorn when comes to features.

Engine and Powertrain:

Hero Honda tweaked the engine a little bit for its new CBZ whereas the Honda retains the same engine for sporty unicorn. Hero Honda have not tweaked the Achiever-spec motor in basic configuration (bore, stroke, compression are identical), but it has increased the power to 14.2 bhp (first 150 to make more than 14 bhp). The extra grunt ensures the

X-treme makes it more powerful than the Unicorn. X-treme is quicker than Unicorn, Autocar achieved 0-60kph in a quick 5.24 seconds, with 100kph flying past in 18.27sec and a top speed of 113kph with the Xtreme. The vertical format engine, which is assisted by a constant velocity (CV) carburetor, generates a peak torque of 12.8Nm at 8,500 rpm, quite similar to the Unicorn’s engine. Both these bikes features five-speed gearbox – a one down, rest up shift pattern. Unicorn scores over CBZ X- Treme in being economical, Unicorn returns a combined fuel efficiency/mileage of 52kpl as against 48kpl returned by CBZ X-Treme. Unicorn is meant for performance savvy and CBZ X-Treme for power savvy.

Ride and Handling:

The new CBZ X-Treme’s chassis is a tubular, diamond-frame type with a single down tube and a box-section swing arm. The ground clearance is an adequate 145mm. 18-inch mag wheels are offered at the front and the rear of the bike. While the front features a 2.75-inch regular tyre, the rear tyre is 100/90 in size, which has been combined with a Tuff-up tube for the added advantage of a relatively puncture-free performance. I believe every CBZ X-Treme driver will enjoy the riding position. With neat handlebar-to-seat-to peg geometry and comfortable seating position I’m sure that X-Treme rider will be reluctant to get down from the bike. X-Treme with the steeped up pillion seat, carefully placed rear foot rest position and split grab rail it ensures a pleasant experience for pillions too. Both these bikes use telescopic forks at the front. 240mm disc brake at the front and drum brake at the rear are standard features.

Sporty Unicorn apart from the new wider rear tyre and its new badge sporty, it has nothing to match to sports character of CBZ X-Treme. But don’t underestimate the riding character of Unicorn. It is the most solid bike in this segment. Honda’s Unicorn features a diamond-type frame with single down tube, which is more rigid and is yet flexible enough to absorb the shocks that will be thrown up by Indian road conditions. The stiff chassis provides the Unicorn excellent straight-line stability and smooth, confident cornering ability. Mated to this diamond frame, the box section swing arm and the unique mono-suspension at the rear add even greater strength to the Unicorn handling dynamics. X-Treme’s outdated twin hydraulic units for rear suspension is no match to Honda’s mono-shock suspension. Honda’s Unicorn may lack sporty character but its handling ability is superior in its class.

Summing it up…

CBZ X-Treme self start is priced at Rs56,500,Honda’s grand prix(GP) version i.e. special/limited edition of Unicorn is priced at Rs59,425 and the sporty version at Rs58,150. (all are ex-showroom price,Delhi)

X- Treme is more powerful and comes with loaded features while sporty unicorn symbolizes performance and makes sense for practicality (even after named sporty). If you look for a sporty bike to intimidate your friend then choose CBZ X-Treme but if you are a looking for a family bike pick the Unicorn.

With Pulsar and Apache in the neighboring stands both CBZ X- Treme and sporty unicorn will find its way hard to grab the attention. Honda and Hero Honda have produced impeccable and reliable bikes (still fit and finish of these manufacturers are unchallengeable) and they have brought some high end technologies to Indian roads. It’s true that both Honda and Hero Honda are great manufacturers and they are capable of producing world class bikes but with aggressive players like TVS and Bajaj they have to be more cautious otherwise these warring brothers will become ageing brothers. Honda and Hero Honda should realize that their die-hard fans expect Fuel Injection for their new bikes not stickers!

    honda launches sporty unicorn with everything same xcept the graphix. No major change which customer eagerly waiting. Mono suspension is very bad for country side roads is all known. again this sporty unicorn with mono suspension is discouraging the customers. CBZ xtreme goog with power and performance but it is very much lags behind in style than th competiters( Pulsar)

    Honda Unicorn sporty comes with 26 major changes in the older unicorn. The 6 spoke alloy wheels and the engine black coating are better than the pulsar black. The control of the unicorn sporty even at 80kmph is awesome(even if u shake the handlebar violently). even it lacks sudden pickup. the acceleration is superb after 40kmph. major let down for the unicorn is the design of the mask. hero honda xtreme is a copy of apache. with engine from honda. the rear view mirror from scooty pep. handling is worst. engine vibration is very high. don compare unicorn with anyother bike coz its a HONDA

    TVS will launch 180cc apache soon.TVS may increase the wheelbase a little bit for its new Apache II or apache 180cc. Fuel Injection may be the surprise gift for all of us.

    unicorn is unbeatable in terms of handling, breaking and riding smoothness. built is “cheetah” look. on top speed, there is no vibration, bike is stable breaking is also good. i am sure new varient will give good feel with alloy wheels and 26 other improovements.

    Being a Honda fan I like the unicorn more than cbz xtreme. But I agreed the fact that xtreme is better than unicorn due to its performance and power. So I requested to Honda to make a new 150cc bike with more power in its class. I also waiting for a bike from Honda more than 200cc.

    I bought a Honda Unicorn sporty / CBF 150 which is the real name, on 12 april 2007. Till now(19 April 22007) I’ve rode the bike for about 435 kms and its awesome. The bike is great , with good looking black alloy wheels and zapper Y tires on. The engine is pretty nice very smooth, till 60kmph after which I can feel a roaring cheetah out of the engine n if U give a little more acceleration the bike will go 70 80 90 in fraction of seconds. 50% of my drive was through NH and its a very nice xperience. The controlling of the bike is very stable both at high speed and low speed . The gear transmission is a little harder, hope it smooth in next service N Nobody believes me I’m getting a mileage of 55 km/liter, Even it was a great surprize for me, I usually drive @ 55-60 kmph, Maximum attained is 90 kmph. So I recommend Honda Unicorn CBF150 than any other bike in the country. for more details mailto : alex234@gmail.com

    Though we have bike crazy people around, many of us have never witnessed or have driven a actual Superbike or a Cruiser, though we do have MNC brands, what you get from them is nothing but a Brand Tag….they have to learn a lot from Bajaj and Enfield, these have created revolution with introduction of Pulsars and Thunderbirds… Untill and unless Honda and Yamaha bring us a true sport bikes or Cruisers. I feel no proud riding a Honda or Yamaha… Hats off to Bajaj and Royal Enfield…

    Hello guys…. Believe me or not. I had my Pulsar digital 150cc in Jan 2007. Just now only I finished my back pain treatment. Its gear box Sucks, False neutral, Gear slips, Only the cosmetic changes are good. No other have the same, i agreed. Then Xtreme.. Its nothing when compared to the 1999 CBZ, who designed this model, they dont have eyes? Not even feeling that I am on a CBZ. Its like something fell on the bike in the middle… clubbes indicators and all is really the old feiro model. Unicorn first model? I agree only with the engine and suspension and the build quality.whats there else in that???? Now the UNICORN SPORT !! What u dont have in that? Alloy wheels? Quality painting? Build Quality? Quality suspension? Black engine? Broader tyres? Its really a late entry but its worth the price.. pulsar can be thrown away after 2 year coz of its quality. Cbz better thatn that, But unicorn the best now…. Its from HONDA remember that… CBZ tried a lot with CBZ CBZ- and all.. what happened at last? I dunno how our guys go behind Versions of Puksar,only look is there ..full of complaints… Please drive unicorn and do post comments here…… Pulsar, CBZ, Unicorn.. good,better,best

Honda bikes in India are not built by international expertise… These are designed and manufactured in your very own backyard (Manesar Villege near Gurgaon)..There are innumerable number of manufacturing defects with Honda product till date that was not taken care of. Indian is right what you probably get is an International brand name called “HONDA” that you may want to proudly show off, and nothing else….

    Very fairly compared !! I hate HMSI aftersales, they are worst than Bajaj. But HMSI gives neat and quality product. HH on the other hand are more customer focused and friendlier compared to HMSI. If I had 65K today I would trust it with HH than HMSI. Xtreme is overall awesome package.

    I’m planning to sell my Disc125 next month, and buy Xtreme —Xtreme is AWESOME !! Unicorn is not bad at all, but we had horrible experience at HMSI service centres with Activa (which my father rides). The maintainence cost is very high with Honda compared to Hero Honda.

    Guys CBZ Xtreme is the best bike I have ever seen….. Honda Unicorn is also good but it lacks in looks due to the front Visor…. CBZ Xtreme is a very powerful bike with 14.2bhp and its acceleration is really superb…. I touched a speed of 80kph just within 10 seconds.. CBZ Xtreme is really Xtreme than all the other bikes in the 150cc segment…. So if u are thinkin of buying a 150cc bike, then its better u go for CBZ Xtreme…. “Because thinkin is such a waste of time”

    I have Honda unicorn since Jan 07, The Performance of the bike is awesome with almost all the respects it can easily beat apache and pulsar but, i am not satisfied with the speed. it will not cross 110km/hr really i was shocked though it has till 160km/hr it couldnot cross 110km/hr even in a superb condition.

    The Mileage is really bad.. the company tells us 60kms /ltr but we dont get atleast 52-54kmsltr and guys for your kind information Unicorn cant beat YamahaRX100 it’s an 100CC bike and unicorn is 150CCbike i was terribly shocked. and the pickup in the 2nd gear is really bad every time we need to shift to 1st gear in slow moving traffics the power is not good when compared to apache and pulsar it’s all facts which i have experienced.

    Dear Fans of unicorn, I got a chance to ride unicorn on high ways up 90Kms and down 90 kms distance. from virudhunagar to Kadambur( 85 Kms on high way) we started at 5.45 am and reached at 7.05 am covering 90 kms in 1hr 20 min. I maintained a speed on 85 to 105 KMPH We filled 5 litres and we required to fill another 2 litres on return to maintain the fuel level in the tank.so we rode 180 kms and it requyired 7 litres( UP journey speed 85 to 105 kmph down journey 80 to 85 kmph) the average milage is 25.71.On calculating the milage while returning i maintained 80 kmph. We two went and were shocked at the milage. if you go beyond 80 you will get a poor milage.I have RX 100.You cannot compare the pickup of RX 100 with this but the performance is excellant in overall compared to rx 100.At 100kmph vibration comes.Very stable.Good brakes.After at high speed drive the has the same sound.one thing i noticed is at 105 kmph i experienced a pick up like when fuel is going to be empty i don’t know why.When i left the trottle it raised and then slowed down.The button control and all are very comfortable. I had chance to ride pulsar it is good but not as unicorn.Pulsar braking excellant.Unicorn at 80 kmph no sound no vibration.When you go beyond 80 milage will be the problem. R.ayyamperumal.

    guys, Honda is well balanced frm every sphere…….. looks good, head light O.K., gear fine, speed O.K., BUT….. a little prblms on Handle when it becomes a year old which is a major prblms. Xtreme is a waste in sence … front view of the head light is ODD. however performances its OK, back view is somewhat SEXY but after all its Zero. lastly Apache is far more good looking than any other bike.

    Both bikes are pretty cool.There is only a 2000 rupees price difference between them and a difference of 3 kilograms in weight.The cbz xtreme’s styling is new and the unicorn is old school.The unicorn scores in mileage and solidity while cbz is plain power.Besides the cbz has new features like toe shifters for example.If given a choice I would go for the cbz just because of its youthful appeal and the reliability of hero honda.

    i own a pulsar 150(not dtsi) for 4 years..it had some problem with gear shifts at begining but got rectified in one my service… i dont think the shocks are really bad…coz i never had any back pain or anything… recently my vehicle reached 40000km.. and its still running good..except for some electrical problems… but when it comes to performance i can tell it is the topgun…belive me i have taken long rides..with my friends..all in hill areas covering more than 200km(hills and plains), more than 5 trips in past 3 years… speeding between 85 to 115 in the freeways..it was really awesome!! the thing i really like in my bike is the stability at 120km speed!! and from 0 to 80 in four to five seconds.. its really good…i had driven unicorn..but i can say it s a family man vehicle..it starts to shiver when i reach 80.. when i throttle more..it speeds up as though it dosent want too!!! after 90-100 thers is no more increase in speed!!.. one major investment i made is changing the back tyres..to an imported one.. the mileage is also pretty descent.. when u speed aggressvely it comes to 40.. there are days where i got 50-55 too!!.. arjun.prakash@yahoo.co.in

    i own a 2000 may model CBZ, Blue color. disadvantages: This bike is hard to handle in peak traffic.It doesn’t show the agility like cbz xtreme,pulsar. May times i have felt that i hold a big bike which has very low mileage(35-35km/litre). advantages: But speaking of long drives, i enjoy driving. It accelerates to a max of 105km/hr(singe rider) and 100km/hr(rider & pillon). The best thing i like about my bike is it never had any complaints. i have never visited mechanic shops after the primary service provided by the dealers. The only time i see a mechanic shop is to change the engine oil.

    Hi All, I have a Honda Unicorn GP. Just finished the third service. A good bike. with 150cc, milage is satisfactory. Good pick up. Maintainance free. Pretty heavy but stable riding. I got apreciations from my friends about the stability and smoothness of the bike; Response of the bike at most riding conditions is really good. I did not ride at speeds above 85 kmph since i love my bike and I am planning to live long. However, till 85, No Problems. One important factor is that Honda engines are known for durability with fewer maintainance. But its true that Honda service centers are little crazy. Bike looks strong and Indian roads should not matter for it. Importantly, Mono-suspension is not that hard as expected. Its adjustable. Even if I was scared by everyone before buying the bike, I am satisfied with the suspension after buying it. Even if the bike is having a great stability, never put the brake while you are taking a turn. Because the bike is heavy and it tends to slip. But I guess this is ture with most bikes. You can confidently buy a Unicorn. Its a nice bike and I am sure, it will be with you for long.

    Hi guys, I’ve made 3 weeks of research in Indian Bikes 150cc category. I read more than 10,000 reviews and test drived unicorn, pulsar, hunk, xtream and apache. I use to spend 4 hours a day for this research. I liked unicorn over other bikes except for the looks, however go and see international models in Honda. You would like Honda engineering and style. Finally I shortlisted unicorn and pulsar. I came to know that there are lot of problems in pulsar compared to unicorn. Both bikes are good but unicorn has an edge over pulsar in quality. pulsar has an edge over unicorn in looks. I’ve booked unicorn today and would be taking the vehicle tomorrow. The onroad price is 60,208 in Bangalore. All over Bangalore the onroad price is constant but the offer varies. Silicon honda showroom told that they’ll give all accessories free so I booked in Silicon Honda RV Road, Bangalore. I think I’ve made a best decision selecting Honda Unicorn. That’s all folks. I’ve share my experience after biking. I’m all set to fly… :-)

    Hi! this msg is for all the ‘performance freaks’ out there. I’m a mechanical engineer and i can confidently tell you that, fuel injection for your pint sized 150/200/220 or even 350(bullet) is a pure waste of time and money…. spend a couple of quid on nodular cast iron cranks and high strength pistons and con rods… PAH!! fuel injection for a 150!!!!

    hi all I have bought the new unicorn. There is a difference when compared to other bikes in its engine. Other things we should never copare because it is unique for each of the companies. As for as unicorn it is good, dynamic, smooth, rich, less jerk. Braking is found good and sensitive. Acceleration should be compromised as it gives more mileage when compared to othe 150 CCs. Pillion seater is lucky to travel in Unicorn. Improvements are, styling can be improved, horns can be changed(double horns can be kept) because no co-incidence between bike size & horn. On a whole Unicorn is Good.

    Hi! Well, you ought to respect a bike for wht it is. Honda Unicorn : Improved ergonomics, refined engine and performance. Pulsar: Brut power n styling RTR 160: A mix of refinement and power…lacks the designing part… you really got to bend to reach the handlebars when your seating position is flat… (u really will not face this problem in a pulsar which is got a racy posture.. or a unicorn which is a comfortable commuter) CBZ xtreme: the design is radical.. or in simple words “weird”.. engine wise.. its the same CBZ engine.. with revved alterations… so is the case with Hunk…. it looks big.. but all the xtra fittings is fiber…soo it jus looks big but really not tht heavy.. Verdict: It really depends on wht type of a biker u r… if you feel that you can afford an extra buck for the maintenance but wont compromise with quality .. Honda Unicorn is jus the bike for you!… However, if you want some power biking.. go for the Pulsar.. but its too common.. but i really would suggect that you wait untill suzuki releases its 150CC variant… and by the way… i used to own a pulsar 150CC… now i own the unicorn… all i have to say is tht i’ve enjoyed every single mile on the unicorn..

    ya dudes…it looks weird and alien..but thats the best..firstly a big thanks to this link..that has helped me in consolidating reviews… thanks to all…and now finally…confused btwn Xtreme and Unicorn big time..(thought of Apache too in the middle–but not Pulsar..cuz i hate that bike..personally)…I finally took the black Xtreme…cuz for me..m not a thorough commuter…so no mileage,maintainance or performance…i want sheer power,racy,pickup,comfort and masculine factor…so settled with the Xtreme… gosh guys..believe me…now i ride it..no more do i read about it…no wonder Unicorn is best..but as of now..not interested to settle with a family looking and soothing bike…as said earlier..i wanted a powerful beast…and my Xtreme just sufficed it..no comparison evn with the Karizma..Xtreme is like no other bike..so here goes the best + factors.. firstly,handling..o my God..terrific handling…and believe me,strangely enuf..with doubles and triples,handling becomes evn better..;)…secondly,huge raw power…Pulsar is nowhere near…i beat the Pulsar and Apache evrytime on roads..thirdly,heavenly pickup…beyond imagination….styling..well,thats person specific…i luvd it cuz it away frm the usual “tick-mark” design…mileage,cmon..atleast m not bothered….its big and heavy…feels like a king on the road… and the best of all..the person who’s mounted at the back…he will njoi it most…cuz the Xtreme rocks by ways of shockers…a class apart shockers…m saying this with the words of all who’ve sat behind..they alwasy feel on air..evn on road-bumps…shockers is the best… guys…mind it…i’ve done all the test rides on all the other bikes…Unicorn..definitely a thums up..also Apache…but plz guys..nvr go for a Pulsar..cmon..my Xtreme beats a Pulsar 200cc too..;) so my Xtreme rocks big time…!!!!!!

    Hi Honda Unicorn is the best bike in its class as it has a superb milage,cool style,excellent handling with good engineering & low maintanance cost. Pulsar has has 2 spark plugs but sill gives low milage. Think before buying.

The new sporty is only the ad-on of some graphics. Rest all is same. The price is about 1800 more for the Graphics. If at all you are looking for graphics, you can design by own and fix it.     Hi Guys, I purchased Unicorn two months back and has clocked 3000 kms till date. I have done lot of research and taken rides on almost all the 150CC bikes (except FZ16) before buying the uni. I did not like pulsar and apache. R15 is very costly so I dropped it. I was confused between Hero honda Hunk and Honda Unicorn. Hunk looks sportier. When I ride Hunk, I liked it. I has the same engine of unicorn but tweaked for performance. I has got good initial pickup compared to Unicorn but lacks top end performance compared to Unicorn. Hunk engine is smooth till 6500 rpm and then it begins to vibrate and the engine sound changes whereas Unicorn remains smooth and vibefree even at speed above 100. The comfort level and mileage is more in Unicorn. The only -ve of Unicorn is the ve for Hunk and that is the looks. Hunk has got the deadly looks. I compared the Unicorn with Hunk coz lot of people have confusion choosing them as I had earlier. And then luckily honda released Unicorn Grand Prix edition which has the outstanding looks. It is blue coloured with white stickers and little bit green colour. It is surely a head turner. I immediately booked the Unicorn GPE and was very much happy when came to know that it will be delivered the same day. When I first sat on my Unicorn I observed that they have increased the height slightly more than the first generation unicorn. The engine is same and seems to be more silent. Coming to looks, whenever I ride my Uni, lot of people especially bikers get crazy to have a glance of this bike. At the signals, people ask me lot of questions regarding the bike as if the bike is newly launched. Honda Unicorn Grand Prix edition has got eyecatching graphics. Even though the bike is not sportier as others but surely catches attention. I recommend you guys, do not cross 50 within first 1000 kms that is the runnin period and do not open full throttle till the second servicing as the engine is not tuned for it. I have seen some guys driving there new bikes at crazy speed. It will effect the performance of the bike badly. Open the throttle in a smooth fashion and enjoy the ride as we have got the wings. After the second serciving you can drive as you like as they tune the engine properly. I know some pulsarians and apachecians got mad when they see the Unicorn on the road and try to drive like hell to showoff that they have got the best(according to them). They do that to have fun coz their machines do not provide fun as ours. If you like to drive like crazy look somewhere else as Unicorn is not meant for rash driving. Drive it smooth and fast but not rashly. Now coming to pickup, it has got decent pickup and does not give sudden jolt of acceleration and jerks, complimenting the most refined and ultra smooth engine it has got. You will feel the same amount of power irrespective of inclines or uneven roads. Engine does not feel any stress when climbing the flyovers while you see other bikers hard to catch up. The gears are at relatively higher rate so you can easily be on 5th gear at the speed of 25 and higher. You can easily move at 3rd gear in the traffic. Its only stop and go when you require to be in the 2nd gear. The gear shifting is ultra smooth. The bike can be started in any gear by holding the clutch and press the start button. I have seen some guys complaining about its breaking system. According to me it has got excellent progressive braking system. The bike does not stop when you apply the rear break, it will only slow down the bike. We have to apply both the breaks simultaneously to halt the bike. First apply the rear break and then immediately apply the front break, this will stop the bike without any skidding irrespective of the speed. It has got excellent handling and cornering ability. The bike moves where you want it to be in a straight line stability. It will be somewhat uncomfortable for skinny guys at slower speeds particularly in traffic due to its heavy weight and tight handle. But on normal and high speeds it handles like a feather and glides where you want it to be. It is a fun to drive this bike on a highway. It is perfectly suitable for long rides. Above 50 the bike engine will become very silent and you will feel as if the bike is gliding. It is easy to handle to this bike in the tight corners even though the bike is lenghthier. The Headlight is very powerful, especially the high beam and covers the entire road. The Horn is average. The comfort level is superb, you will not feel any back pain. The monoshock handles the potholes very comfortably. One thing I observed is it handles well with a pillion rather than single. The mileage of this bike is better compared to other bikes in this segment. Currently it is giving me 53-55kmpl in the city and on the highway 57 kmpl. I mostly drive between 55-60 and sometimes 70. One of my friend is getting 57 kmpl in the city and 60 on the highways which I think is more than enough for a 150CC bike. Now coming to cons, it has got starting problem in cold days. To start it open the choke, push the start button and when the bike starts do not release the choke, drive the bike for some distance with the choke on without giving extra throttle and then release the choke. It is the easiest method to overcome this problem and this does not stress the engine. It does not have a parking light which I think should be there. I noticed one thing that the silencer gets hot very soon. I asked about this to my friends and relatives who does have Unicorn and it seems to be common. Overall its a great package.

    Great review Hussain. I do not have any of the bike review here. I ride a Yamaha YBX125, which I intend to upgrade. I ruled out Pulsar 150 from my list as my brother got it and sorry Pulsar guys…it is a miserable bike. Eventhough my brother maintains it well, after a year or so, the bike looks worn out and old. And theirs nothing great about its performance. I had Extreme, Hunk, Apache and Unicorn in my list. Now was the confusion, which one should I go. Best way, test ride it, ask opinions of technicians, because I believed users will always say their bike is the best, my brother is an example. I rode Apache, it was quite Ok, but I din’t like its sound and also the mileage factor was on the lower side. I had just fell in love with the looks of Hunk, ruling out Extreme from my list since their engines were similar which leaves behind looks which, the Hunk is way ahead of Extreme. But Hunk’s seating was awful. I didn’t feel it very confortable. As I was a family man, I found it would be very difficult for me when I have to travel with my family in Hunk. Still the looks haunted me. Surely looked great, the Hunk. Then the final one …Unicorn. At first when I approached a showroom, they couldn’t offer me a test drive. They asked me to come after a few days. When I got the opportunity to ride it, all other bikes just got washed away from my mind. Riding the bike was so great that then and there that IF i’m to buy a bike, its going to be Unicorn or else, I’m going to stick on with my old Yamaha. Unicorn does not have that sudden pick up like the Hunk, but the refinement of this engine is just great. I then enquired with lots of general bike technicians….all of them had just one answer…go for Unicorn. So if someone tell me that Pulsar is the best, Apache is the best or Extreme is the best…I will tell them to go to hell. I have booked for a Unicorn, and I will get it in three months time. I will share my experiences after that. Bye…for now.

    Guys, Just go for New Honda Unicorn Sporty! Its a superb bike! Pickup owesome. You can bet with any 150 segments bikes in pickup.(Pulsar, Hunk, CBZ Extreme), better control as compare to others bikes, I have reached at 118 Kmph.I have test driven Pulsar 150, Discover, Victor GLX and Unicorn. Unicorn is very smooth, excellent ride comfort and mileage too is pretty good! Its the best among the present lot! It is the best of all. Finally go for unicorn.

    All bikes which we talking about is best (no doubt about it). I have bought a new Unicorn (Sport)and also i have a pulsar 150 and 220. I use this all three bike with regular intervals but i am finding Unicorn is the best with all options….like mileage, speed,handling,look etc. And about pulsar 150 its been old now….(No Comment) Pulsar 220 is also best but this bike is only pass the test of speed,look,handling. Last one thing best bike is one which having multiple qualities ,The brand Name (Honda , Bajaj) is no matters. I would will recommend Unicorn 150 is the best option all over…..     I own a CBZ in Nepal. It’s a old version (vintage). I saw unicorn,cbz extreme all are good but nothing can beat my machine in any ways. I truly appreciate the way honda has designed it. It is a king of sports and really unbeaten in looks (in its segment). I feel its engine vibration and go crazy with it. It’s the best

    CBZ Xtreme is the best.. best pickup in 150 cc (excluding the yamaha monsters) can beat a pulsar 180 or apache 160.. but the new apache 180 is another monster.. too fast..

    Hi, I’m plannin 2 buy my first bike. I had a test drive of both Pulsar and Unicorn. I like the smoothness and appearence of Unicorn. But my friend who bought Unicorn eight months back, complaint ab8 starting trouble and while will turn off while goin in 1st gear for the first time in that day. Anyone else faced the same pblm ? Please suggest is there any other bike gud in 150cc ?

        Unicorn gives comfort drive as it was designed for it where as cbz gives u a stylish look but is not comfort to drive longer distances as unicorn. Unicorn engine is long life and mono suspension that cbz can’t beat

    ohh.. i think selecting of bikez were depended on the riders needzz… TVS apache is for smaller guys and who likes performance HONDA unicorn for little mor big guys and whoz looking for meilage HEROHONDA XTREME FOR SIMILAR LARGE GUYZ…. i think it gives more power than unicorn.. if you need sorts ride or comfortable ride go for apache… but remember HONDA IS HONDA

    Hey my friends … ^5 Wtf with some of you guys? Herohonda is nothing but the honda’s effort. Herohonda is one of the major two wheeler manufacturer only in India. Have you ever thought about ‘Honda’? All that I can say about these two bikes is:- I have ridden both of the bikes. I felt cb unicorn is much better. Now this is quietly up-to you what features you’re finding in a bike. 1> FOR Comfort: – CB unicorn always beats X-Treme. X-Treme is noisy comparing with CB unicorn. CB unicorn also have mono suspension which is far better and more comfortable than x-treme’s out dated suspensions. Mono suspension is used in racing bike to centralise the weight with velocity. After reaching above 90km/h X-treme goes in vibration mode. But the ride is still comfortable and neither vibration nor engine sound can torment your mind. Cb unicorn :- 9/10 X-treme:- 7/10 2>For Features:- Yeah, here it may seem to be a disaster for CB unicorn. But believe me actually it makes X-treme ruined. First of all we’re paying (60000-70000) INR to buy a bike not an integrated clock. (You can get good wrist watch paying 2000 or more!) We need a real feature not kid’s toy as gadgets with digital. CB unicorn uses racing suspension which is all alone to get over X-treme’s kids playing toys. CB unicorn:- 8/10 X-treme: – 7/10 Looks:- They’re almost same in looks. Only In this segment X-treme can overcome Cb unicorn. X-treme has V cut handle which is attractive and it’s indicator is unique. CB unicorn:- 7/10 X-treme:- 9/10 Control:- We should always give stress on this. This is really very important though in 150 cc segment SUZUKI GS has best controlling yet I can’t say anything about it here. After reaching above 90km/h X-treme has some problems. Here Honda technology beats X-treme. Unicorn’s mono suspension mesmerises the total drama with its wonderful mass centralisation technique. Even at the very low speed if you start slow bike race (like slow cycling race without foot step) Unicorn must win. Cb Unicorn:- 10/10 X-treme:-7/10 Speed:- This is the segment where X-treme will get the clear victory. I have ridden X-treme @120km/h of spped Which is superior to Cb unicorn. Cb unicorn reaches only upto 113 km/h. Cb unicorn:- 6/10 X-treme:- 9/10 The above mentioned score is according to my own opinion I don’t how far I am correct. But I gave the points with my analysis and what I felt. I’m not a mechanic I’m a software engineer I always like unicorn’s comfortable safe riding than company’s car. With Unicorn I get good speed in spite of having low initial pickup it gives good acceleration when it reaches 30 km/h.and it can still accelerate up-to 100km/h after that you’ve to wait for more speed. I do not want to talk anything about mileage or price. Cause this “the more you will pay, the more you will get”!!!!!!!!!!
