Road traffic injuries are estimated to be the eighth leading cause of death globally for all age groups and the leading cause of death for children and young people 5–29 years of age. Lack of education, safety standards, proper training and technology are the basic reasons for the rise in road accidents in most of the countries including India.

With the vision to reduce road traffic injuries, Indian Road Safety Campaign organised International Conference on Safer Mobility 2019 (ICSM 2019) with the support of NITI Aayog, Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH), Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA), Department of Science and Technology and United Nations Institute of Training and Research (UNITAR) from 30th to 31st March 2019 at Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Delhi.

The conference introduced a network-wide road safety assessment as well as the opportunity to share the applaudable work done by different stakeholders to solve the menace of road safety.

The two Days Long Conference witnessed Speakers from 8 Different Ministries(Secretary, DoEPD; Secretary, MoHUA; Principal Adviser, NITI Aayog; Additional Secretary, MoHFW; Joint Secretary, MoRTH; Joint Secretary, DST; Director, NCRB(MHA); Deputy Secretary, MoRTH; ADG, DGHS(MoHFW); Veerendra Singh Rathore, MoRTH), 5 State Transport/Traffic Departments(Joint Commissioner for Transport, Karnataka; Special Director General of Police, Madhya Pradesh; Joint Transport Commissioner, Rajasthan; Deputy Commissioner Traffic, Assam; Additional Secretary, Road Safety Council, J&K), 300 Students from 32 Cities and representatives from 3 Countries(Sweden, Germany, Pakistan).

Key-highlights of the conference:

Panel Discussions on Role of corporates in Road Safety, Role of NGOs in Road Safety, Approach of various central government & bodies, Role of Journalism in Road Safety, Role of Cooperative Federalism in Road Safety, Scope of latest innovations in Road Safety and Approach of various state government and bodies were organised as a means of influencing the public to behave more safely and learn the preventive measures and simple practices to keep oneself safe on roads and all types of road transport . The speakers raised causes and consequences of carelessness particularly in the context of Indian roads, which was followed by a series of rigorous The discussion concluded with a keynote on the best ways to adopt road safety.

There were several exhibits put up by school and college students, startups in automotive technologies as well as organisations and researchers working on improvement in safety products for vehicle riders. Visitors were shocked to see school and college students doing such innovations.

There were several competitive events based on the theme of road safety which witnessed nation-wide participation of students from both school and college level.

The Conference witnessed the finale of 10 competitions. College teams from IIMs, IITs, NLUs and Schools students from multiple cities participated in College Hackathon, Case Study Challenge, School Hackathon, Watch The Road, Ideathon, Influential and Excellence Award, Paper Presentation, Bill Analysis, PIL Competition and iSAFE Finale(a 9 month long championship organised by IRSC and MoRTH).

The dignitaries and exhibitors presented and discussed the key developments, opportunities and challenges for the safety of roads.

The conference deliberated on different topics related to the Status of Road Safety and Safe Mobility in the country further examining and designing implementable solutions for ensuring the safety of its citizens. Targeted primarily at organizations and policy-makers in charge of road safety, the conference followed a phase-wise approach highlighting the risks commuters face on a daily basis and ways to minimize and reduce these risks.

The conference witnessed the participation of 1000+ audience including Policy Makers, Researchers, Law enforcement officers, Advisers, Engineers and Innovators, Community Leaders, and students.

Indian Road Safety Campaign (IRSC) is organising International Conference on Safer Mobility 2019 (ICSM 19) by the support of NITI Aayog, Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH), Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs(MoHUA), and United Nations Institute of Training and Research (UNITAR).

The conference is aimed at all the stakeholders i.e. Policy makers, Researchers, Law Enforcement Officers, Advisers, Engineers and Innovators, Community Leaders, and Student Leaders consisting a number of interesting talks covering range of topics, discussions, workshops, presentations and networking opportunities throughout the span of two days. Renault launches Kwid 1.0 at Rs.3.82 lakhs

Renault has launched a more powerful 1.0-litre engine equipped Kwid at Rs.3.82 lakhs (ex-showroom, Delhi). Powering the new Kwid 1.0 is a three cylinder petrol engine with a displacement of 999cc. The engine is paired to a 5-speed Manual gearbox and churns out peak power and torque figures of 68hp and 91Nm respectively.

The 1.0-litre engine is available only in the top-spec RXT variant. Though the cabin remains unchanged, the new Kwid 1.0 features some minor updates including silver-finished wing mirror housings and a checkered strip along the lower door panels. Also, for the first time in the segment, the updated Kwid gets seatbelt pretensioners and load limiters along with optional driver-side airbag.

It is expected that Renault will offer an AMT option for the Kwid 1.0 in the near future. The price (ex-showroom, Delhi) details of the Kwid 1.0 variants are

Bajaj V launches

Bajaj Auto’s ‘V’, made from the metal of the invincible INS Vikrant has launched “Mission Vikrant 1971” to search for the 1300 officers and sailors that served on India’s first iconic aircraft carrier during the 1971 Indo-Pak war. Mission Vikrant 1971, is a digital initiative to identify and share details of these war heroes that served on the INS Vikrant and preserve their stories for posterity.

Honda offers Dream Yuga with a new dual-tone color

Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India Pvt. Ltd (HMSI) has offered a new dual tone color scheme for its 110cc Dream Yuga motorcycle. The newly introduced color is Black with Athletic Blue Metallic and is available in addition to the existing colors without any additional cost.

Bajaj offers new colors for Avenger Street bikes


Bajaj Auto has introduced new color schemes for its Avenger Street and Cruise bikes. The new colors come at no additional charges and include shades of Cosmic Red and Matte Wild Green. The Cosmic Red shade is offered to Avenger Street 150 and Matte Wild Green for the Street 220 model while the Avenger Cruise 220 remains to be in the Divine Black and the recently launched Desert Gold colors.

No Mechanical changes are seen on the bikes and so the engines powering the bikes remain unchanged. As the new colors are offered at no extra cost, the pricing of the bikes also remains the same at Rs.85,497 (ex-showroom, Delhi) for the Cruise & Street 220 and at Rs.75,500 (ex-showroom, Delhi) for the Avenger Street 150 model.

Hyundai to hike prices from August 16, 2016


Hyundai is likely to increase the prices of all its models by up to Rs.20,000 from 16th of this month. The impact of rupee depreciation and the rising input costs are the major causes for this price hike by Hyundai.

Mr.Rakesh Srivastava, Senior Vice-President (sales & marketing) of Hyundai Motor India Ltd (HMIL) reported, “The rupee depreciation and the increase in input costs have impacted our overall cost. We have been absorbing most of the cost. Now, we have been compelled to increase prices. We are currently working out the details and the increase in prices will range from Rs.3,000 to Rs.20,000 across models.”

He further said the price hike will be effective August 16, 2016.

Hyundai sells a range of vehicles in India starting from entry-level small car Eon to premium SUV Santa Fe, which are priced between Rs.3.25 lakhs and Rs.31.75 lakhs (ex-showroom Delhi).

New Penalty List of 2016 Motor Vehicle Amendment Bill

Union Cabinet has approved the Motor Vehicle Amendment Bill proposed for this year. The newly proposed penalties are much higher than the older ones. Starting from Rs.500, the penalty range goes up to Rs.1 lakh. For drunken driving, the person has to pay a fine of Rs.10,000. PFB the proposed amendments in various penalties under Motor Vehicle Amendment Bill – 2016.
