Yamaha plans to launch Unisex scooter

Yamaha plans to launch a unisex scooter in India which will compete with Honda Activa. The two new automatic scooters are Ray and Ray Z which are aimed at women and men respectively. These unisex model scooters will be unveiled at the upcoming 2014 Indian Auto Expo in Feb 2014.

It is expected that it would get the same 113 cc, four stroke, single cylinder engine which can churn out maximum power of 7 bhp at 7500 rpm and torque of 8.1 Nm at 5100 rpm. These new automatic scooters are positioned above the current ray model. It is also expected that Yamaha would launch more automatic scooters in India.

Asano Masaki, MD ,Yamaha Motor India said, “Through our premium motorcycles we have created a strong brand amongst the India’s youth, but over 90% of Indian two-wheelers are utilised for daily commute purpose. We think there is a good potential for a unisex family scooter, which would help us build our volumes going ahead.”
