Mitsubishi launches Pajero Sport Select Plus at Rs.28.9 lakhs

In the wake of steaming competition in the Rs 20-30 lakh SUV bracket, Mitsubishi has launched a special variant of the Pajero Sport. The Select Plus is a souped-up version of the Mitsubishi Pajero Sport with a few extra features.

The Select Plus variant is priced at Rs 28.9 lakh for the automatic and Rs 29.3 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi) for the manual transmission. That’s a jump of Rs 1.2 lakh over the regular trims.

This special edition brings along a two-tone paint job, which is available in black, white, silver and red shades. Improving cosmetic elements of the Select Plus are features like chrome door handles, illuminated scuff plates, daytime running lights, flared wheel arch claddings, black radiator grille and a front crash guard. While the chrome handles look tachy, the addition of black grille and wheel cladding does give it a strong presence and will appeal to most SUV buyers.

The functional extras of the Pajero Sport Select Plus include a cooler for chilling cold drinks, HID headlamps, DVD player for rear seat entertainment, power-folding outside mirrors and cruise control. Standard features of the Pajero Sport include dual-zone climate control with a separate compressor unit for rear air conditioner, touchscreen infotainment system with navigation and reversing camera.

Rest of the elements of the Pajero Sport remain unchanged, and it continues to carry the 2.5-litre turbocharged diesel engine, which is available with both a 5-speed automatic and a 5-speed manual transmission. The automatic is available with front-wheel drive only while the manual is exclusively available with four-wheel drive. Power output stands at 178PS at 4000rpm regardless of what transmission you choose. The torque rating of the automatic variant stands at 350Nm between 1800-3500rpm. Same for the manual transmission with four-wheel drive model is 400Nm from 2000rpm to 2500rpm.

The Pajero Sport Select Plus measures 4695mm long, 1815mm wide and 1840mm tall, with a wheelbase of 2800mm. Its length is shy of the Ford Endeavour as well as the Toyota Fortuner, but the wheelbase sits bang in the middle of the two with 50mm of breathing room on either side. But, just like the other two, it has enough space for seven passengers.

GENERAL MOTORS INDIA TO FOCUS ON EXPORTS

General Motors India announced today that it will focus on its growing vehicle export manufacturing operations and cease sales in the domestic market by the end of 2017.

The decision, which follows a comprehensive review of future product plans for GM India, is part of a series of actions taken by General Motors to address the performance of its operations worldwide. Through the review, which began in June 2016, the company determined its greatest opportunity in India to drive shareholder return rests on focusing on exports from India.

Stefan Jacoby, GM executive vice president and president of GM International, said, “We explored many options, but determined the increased investment originally planned for India would not deliver the returns of other significant global opportunities. It would also not help us achieve a leadership position or compelling, long-term profitability in the domestic market. Difficult as it has been to reach this decision, it is the right outcome to support our global strategy and deliver appropriate returns for our shareholders.”

This announcement is consistent with GM’s global disciplined allocation of capital and investment in its business around the world designed to generate stronger returns and drive shareholder value.

“Our decision in India is an important milestone in strengthening the performance of our GM International operations and establishing GM as a more focused and disciplined company,” said Jacoby.

As GM moved to consolidate Indian manufacturing at its Talegaon Assembly Plant, the company ceased manufacturing at its Halol Assembly Plant on April 28, 2017. Negotiations continue on the asset sale at Halol.

Kaher Kazem, GM India president and managing director, said the focus for the GM India manufacturing base at Talegaon will be export markets, upcoming export vehicle launches and exploring longer-term strategic options.

“GM India’s export business has tripled over the past year,” Kazem said. “Exports will remain our focus going forward as we continue to leverage India’s strong supply base. We recently launched the new Chevrolet Beat hatchback for export to Mexico and Central and South American markets and will launch the Chevrolet Beat sedan later this year for those markets.

“We will support our affected customers, employees, dealers and suppliers,” Kazem said. “Chevrolet owners can be assured that we will continue to honor all warranties and provide comprehensive aftersales support.”

GM India informed employees of the decision today.

The company will work closely with affected customers and dealers on a transition plan. The customer support center will remain open and all warranties and service agreements, as well as ongoing service and parts requirements for all vehicles, will continue to be honored. Our customers can call 1-800-3000-8080, email us at gmi.cac@gm.com or visit chevrolet.co.in.

Volvo P6820C ABG paver launched in India

Volvo CE is launching its newest paver into India, the mid-sized P6820C ABG. The unit offers a winning combination of power, production capacity, and precision for excellent paving quality, with perfectly smooth mats.

The new Volvo P6820C tracked paver – equipped for high performance – is an all-around paving solution. Powered by Volvo’s D6E COM IIIA/EPA Tier 3 engine, the paver is considerably more powerful than its predecessor, while providing lower fuel consumption and less noise. As the Indian government continues to develop its road building program, contractors will find Volvo’s new paver an ideal solution to help meet increasingly ambitious construction schedules.

Dimitrov Krishnan, vice president and head of Volvo CE India, said infrastructure development remains a key focus in the country and highlighted increasing market demand for mid-sized road paving equipment that does not compromise on quality.

“We are seeing more interest in equipment at the lower end of the scale as construction of smaller roads in more rural areas gathers pace. This reflects a maturing of the road network in India with many major routes now well into development, requiring work on the byways which will feed the arterial roads,” he said. “The new mid-sized P6820C perfectly addresses this issue, offering an ideal combination of productivity and flexibility.”

The P6820C is fitted with an emission-compliant engine. Fuel consumption is further reduced when the operator uses smart power mode, which lowers engine RPM to match power and demand — resulting in fuel savings of up to 30%. Reduced noise levels can also be attributed to sound lowering components and a robust frame. These features combined with smart power can dramatically decrease noise levels, compared with the competition.
