Volkswagen’s innovation on diesel engine comes into the picture

Volkswagen has showcased its innovation on 2L diesel engine and confessed certain facts on the upcoming 10-speed DSG gearbox at a technical presentation in Wolfsburg,Germany.This engine has been designed with an intention to increase the horse power to 272 hp from that of 240hp 2.0 litre TDI bi-turbo engine that forms the base of the newly developed one.The base model would come under the hood of the Latest Passat.It is not clear about the torque figures that the new engine would claim to deliver,but it is expected that it would be above 500Nm figure of the Passat’s 2.0-litre TDI engine.The newly developed engine has been equipped with a two-stage electronically operated turbocharger, a new variable valve timing system, and an updated piezoelectric common rail injection system.It will be soon implemented in the next generation vehicles from VW and Audi.Regarding the upcoming 10-speed DSG gearbox,codenamed DQ551,the sources revealed that the new gearbox has been designed in a manner that it could handle the torque upto 550Nm,promote better fuel economy and enable smoother gear changes.This DQ551 gearbox underpin its base with the 6-speed unit.Volkswagen also feels proud to offer a new coasting function that is programmed to shut off the engine at speeds below 7km/h as well as at high speeds when the engine is at idle state,and a brake energy recuperation system to harness wasted power.
