While Tata’s nano made everyone to rethink the concept of frugal engineering, R1 inspired YZF R15 and FZ inspired FZ 150cc made everyone to realise, what is a true 150cc bike? YZF R15 and FZ pulled crowds like anything. It seems that Yamaha is back with a bang. Amidst disco and thundering music we interviewed Mr Sam Group Head, Marketing and Sales of Yamaha India. In this interview, he talks about rebirth of Yamaha brand in India. He promised from now onwards Yamaha will carry forward the global Yamaha brand image to India and will live to the expectations of brand Yamaha. While conquering the premium segment yamaha is in no haste to exit the 100cc segment. He told us that Yamaha will not vacate from the 100cc segment for the sake of bringing niche products. Yamaha would now be present across the segments and carve out a niche for its products. Let’s Vroommm with Yamaha

  6. Dr Anjan Chatterjee, India says:

Yamaha- I feel sad for the lost opportunities and the years 1993-2008 were truly wasted by Yamaha(earlier Escorts Yamaha)in India. They produced nothing worth its name. The Crux, YBX, Gladiator and so on. Nothing has set the sales charts afire. The RXG 135 and the RX 135 are poor cousins of the RX 100.
Yamaha had a performance bike maker’s image. look at the RD 350 and the RX 100. I still own a 1990 RX 100 in mint condition that has clocked 45000kms on the odo and has the original wine red paint and chrome work. Its such a bike that even today sends goose-pimples to riders on Pulsars , Hunks and Unicorns on the roads.
With this background Yamaha went into the economy mode by introducing 4 stroke bikes for the volume segment like the YBX, Crux and so on. These were dead bikes in the showroom from day one. Its a mystery as to why yamaha wasted the precious 18 years since 1990.The magic of the RX 100 was fading since 1993 and it desired a new replacement.
Hope the new launches in the 150 cc segment by Yamaha live up to its image and name.
