Not only Tata Motors, no manufacturer ever like to see his product catching fire like this. A new Tata Nano catches fire and burnt into flames. Definitely this is not a good publicity for world’s renowned people’s car – Nano. This may/may not be manufacturing defect, however the reputation has already taken a beating.
” “Satish Sawant, an insurance agent, collected his brand new Nano from a showroom in Prabhadevi, and headed home, dreaming of showing off his first car to his family at LIC Colony, Mulund (W). The car burst into flames at Eastern Express Highway. Sawant jumped to safety. As Sawant cannot drive, the Concorde Motors showroom provided him with a driver to take him home safely. There was not much afternoon traffic on the Eastern Express Highway, it being a Sunday afternoon. Sawant managed to cross Bhandup in less than 40 minutes. Around 3.45 pm, he reached Navghar Signal on the Eastern Express Highway. Suddenly, a motorcycle overtook him, signalling him to look behind.
As he turned to see what the biker was pointing at, he was alarmed to see the rear of the car in flames. Sawant and the driver leapt out of the burning car. In no time, the car was engulfed in flames. Even a tree on the side of the highway was singed. A shaken Sawant said, “I have no idea what happened. A motorcycle rider overtook me and told me that the vehicle was on fire. The engine was behind me and I did not realise that the car was on fire,” said Sawant. A fire tender rushed to the scene and doused the fire. The Navghar police (Mulund E) have registered a case yesterday evening ” says Midday.

Dear Davneet, Jandu etc., please keep the posts healthy, it gives bad taste to the forum. I have seen that the posts has acquired 5 replies in my email notification. Thinking about the same , I read the post that there will be something technical or commercial reason of the nano catching fire. But I was wrong. Dear Vicky, please do one thing, always testify the responses that are being posted. It maintain the healthy decorum. By the way, you are doing a good job. I am regular reader of yours. Thank you for giving us this services.
Can any one tell, what can be the reason of this? I dont think this will give a bad image to Nano because Nano has acquired the image that these sheer coincidences will not harm much.

the possible reasons for the burning of nano car could be any short circuit in wire harness as there is no solid protection has been provided as relays.or else thr could be lack of cooling to the heating system for engine on account of which it might have occured.

I am really not sure how this has happened, but guys wait and the reason will come out, before u give ur openions about the manufacuturer.
I have been driving nano everyday, and have crossed 2500 Km in 3 months. i daily travel to 100 KM up/down to office, and have not observed and complains in it. So i stongly beleive that before complaining about the product better to know the cause & analysis of the problem.
@ Pro: I can;t wait for the Cervo too.. I hear it’s going to be a 2-cylinder engine based on the K-series platform. Should make a good buy if it’s styled on the contemporary side.
@ Vicky: I am a regular here, and you guys do a fantastic job. And I do agree there is a need in some cases to proofread.

Tata needs to look into these matters as this isn’t the first case. Agreed, it is a low-priced car, but then again, does that necessarily make it a cheap car? There’s a difference there… And that line is what needs to be maintained. I’m sure Tata can do it, it’s probably something someone just overlooked, or assumed different.
This is an eye opener for all those who are mad from the day its release been announced, as if they are offering Mercedes in one lakh.
Also a good example to become skeptical about the role media plays these days.
This is also a tight slap to the face of C.P.M.

All said and done. Nano seems to be a pinch in the wrong direction. I am a person from the automotive industry. And i don’t know why TATA is not taking it seriously. Believe me a problem like this is such a serious matter which might even require a call back of NANO. Has the initial study(FMEA) done been done and reviewed for this problem. AS a customer we have the right to know these things.
Tata Motors should be penalized and the Sawant family should be paid highest compensation immediately along with total price of the car. Tata should be penalized at the highest court on criminal act.I think this Nano would be like out MIG 21. Beware buyers, plz dont go for Nano like cheap cars and sacrific your life for Nano.
