Though Tata Motors do not shy away from fierce battles, it always wish to be smart rather than a fighter. Tata Motors enjoys like anything when it comes creating a new segment. India’s first mini truck – the ace and first limousine – the IndigoXL are its examples. Recently it introduced Ace with soft-top and India’s first maxi van winger. Tata Motors the segment maker is now planning a new segment – compact saloon. Won’t you buy a car which comes at a price of a hatchback and offers the space of a sedan? as the small car segment and entry level sedan segment is facing a lot of competition Tata finds a room for a segment in between these two. Tata’s new indigo will look like a hatchback in front and side view but unlike most hatchbacks, the styling at the rear will give a saloon like elegance through the clear separation of glass area and bodywork, while combining the real advantages of a hatchback door. Through this modification your new indigo(compact saloon/notchback) will not only parking friendly but also will become dearer cheaper by Rs 30,000(since the indigo compact saloon will fall in small car tax bracket)

Hi,
It sounds interesting, but any idea when this compact saloon is going to be launched.
indigo set to enter small car
Carmakers are tweaking their models to meet the small car criteria and avail of lower excise duty so as to bring down prices. After Ford Motor chopped off a few centimetres from its Fusion model and Hyundai and General Motors tweaked their Getz and UV-A engines to 1.2 litres to reduce incidence of excise duty, Tata Motors is all set to roll out a shorter Indigo sedan at Rs 30,000 less. The ex-showroom (Delhi) price of the current base Indigo model is Rs 4.64 lakh. But unlike Getz and UV-A, which are hathcbacks, Indigo will be the first sedan to reduce its length to qualify as a small car. When contacted, the Tata Motors spokesperson refused to comment on the new compact Indigo.
This is the second time Tata Motors will modify its cars to qualify for lower excise duty. Earlier this year it rolled out Indica Xeta petrol model with a 1.2 litre engine and reduced the price by Rs 25,000. The length of the Indigo is 4,150 mm and Tata Motors is expected to strip around 200 mm in the new model. All vehicles under 4-metre length and engine capacity of 1200cc for petrol and 1500cc for diesel qualify as small cars and attract a lower 16% excise duty while all other passenger vehicles are tagged under the 24% bracket.
A 8% difference in excise duty helps companies to reduce prices of different car models by up to Rs 35,000. Tata Motors Indigo compact, which will have a diesel engine, competes in the B segment.

Hi, Tata instead of launching new variants and models in the market, should first improve the basic quality of the car, it is the biggest misconception that TATA Cars are cheap/economical, ask any user and he will never say that the car was good, ask him about visits to service center and picture will be more clear, I personnaly brought a IndigoXL Classic diesel variant in July 2007, When the CAR pulls to left, I got a reply that this was not a serious matter, Than Oil leak from engine, and reply I got was this is common ( The whole engine needs to be opened to rectify the same) when clutch failed they told me that I dont know to drive.
I think its Miles to go for TATA before they can confidently say that they make GOOD cars, About service, its best not mentioned here. You will not even get a commitment from TATA that the problem will be resolved permenantly, all you will hear is Under warranty we will cover the fault.
Just a small correction..
In the line “will become dearer by Rs 30,000…”, becoming dearer means becoming COSTLIER not cheaper.
You might want to correct that.
don’t feel bad Jaiprakash but i too think that u don’t know driving….
This one is for Mr. JAiPrakash Yadav..
HAve u ever heard of sumthing calle wheel alighnment??
If not ask ur nearby garage!
its necessary for everycar after sum usage!
and talkin of oil leakage…u must have bumped it from da lower side hard enough to make the pipe leak.
so next time u post a comment or drive a car be careful.
Dear Readers,
I think its high time for tata motors to catchup in terms of quality cars, afters sales service , etc.
presently using Indica and a great fan but unfortunately they nee dto improve on lot of things and fast looking at competition.
Otherwise in terms of space its truly more car per car and nobody can beat them .
tks
Anil
Hi Everyone.
I had bought a New tata Vehicle and had taken it for the first time.
For my Surpsie the FrontBonnet openend Automatically and Hit the Hit the Front Glass .
I asked Tata’s to Verify and the Answer was the Lock is Proper and the Bonnet was left Open before Driving.
The Very fact that the ribbon was tied to the Bonnet as this was a new Vehicle indicated that it was never Openend. Please suggest me on what i should do.
A New Vehicle and such a response from Tata’s ie really dissapointing.
