Skoda Fabia recalled

Skoda has recalled the two petrol variants of its popular hatchback – Fabia 1.2l and Fabia 1.4L to rectify a technical glitch. The problem in the two variants is affecting the fuel efficiency and performance of the car. Several customers had experienced problems with the car and some even complained that the brake pedal became hard, while driving at a high speed.

Skoda has confirmed that it had recalled the car, but blamed “inconsistent fuel quality” behind the step. Due to inconsistent fuel quality in India, Skoda India has done minor change in the software to attain better fuel economy and driving performance, the company said. Skoda officials said they would rectify the problem free of cost. “We are not charging anything for this and customers would just need to spend about 20-30 minutes at the dealerships,” a company spokesperson said. All manufacturers do constant upgradations of their products so that the customer always enjoys the best quality and service, the company further said.

Skoda simply can’t blame the fuel quality, why was extensive testing done for such long period of time. Giving such excuses is completely futile.

I bought a Fabia 1.4 MPL Elegance couple of weeks back and I am facing this issue with my car.

According to the Manual & the specs on the fuel lid the car is supposed to run on fuel between 91-95 RON (octane level). The funny thing is that my dealer (Autobahn, Prabhadevi) explicitly told me that you should use regular unleaded petrol. And when I did so the car’s pick went for a toss and the brakes got hard once in a while. When I reported the under-performance to the workshop they inspected got back to me saying that I should use 93 RON. WTF?, I mean no one has this fuel in India man.. The only option is speed 91 which is close and easily available… I have no choice but to use this and I am stuck with really lousy pick-up on 1st and 2nd… The car does ok once its in the 3rd and above… Honestly, according to specs, it shouldn’t so bad but the performance is glaring to the extent that a Maruti 800 overtakes you when the traffic light strikes green and there’s absolutely nothing you can do about it. IT JUST SUCKS to be in the position after shelling out that kind of money.

I am still battling it out with them and figuring out a solution to the problem. But would definitely suggest anyone planning to buy the Fabia Petrol to hang on for a while coz you will feel sorry for yourself after paying such a premium for an under performing car.

Purchased in May since then the fabia is in their worksshop for defects in engine. Three workshop under the able gudainace of Aurangabad Official is working on the car. It is still in the workshop at Moti Nagar, New Delhi since 18/04/2009. I can say that i have been cheated by the Skoda Auto through there over publishity and claim. Interestingly the workshop is avoiding to issue road fitness
