*Piaggio introduced its CNG version of its cargo carrier ‘Ape CNG’ priced at Rs 1.40 lakh. Piaggio would also launch the passenger version soon of ‘Ape’ with a price tag of around Rs 1.30 lakh both ex-showroom in Ahmedabad.
* Piaggio to launch LPG version of three-wheeler eApe’ in Bangalore next month
* Piaggio which has already introduced its sub-one tonne truck ‘Ape Truk’ in Kerala and Tamil Nadu and will roll out throught the India by March 2008.
*Piaggio will also introduce ‘Ape Truk Plus’ which will cater to the upper end of the sub-one tonne segment.
* Piaggio also plans to create two new platforms beyond the sub-one tonne but less than two tonne by 2010.
*Piaggio is investing 60 million euros at its Baramati facility for a three-wheeler diesel engine facility, which will have a capacity of about 2 lakh units a year. The plant is expected to be operational by 2009. The facility will cater to the Indian market as well as the requirements of the Italian parent. Piaggio currently sources engines from Greaves Cotton Ltd and Lombardini for the Indian market.

Referring to CNG driven three-wheeler, PVPL chairman and managing director Ravi Chopra said, “We at Piaggio are truly passionate about offering the Indian customer a new benchmark in eco-friendly transportation. The Piaggio Ape CNG-three-wheeler is a product of advanced research at Piaggio’s R&D centre in both Italy and India.”
About the possibility of the company making a re-entry into the two-wheeler segment, he said, “At present our plates are full and would like to concentrate on being the number one three-wheeler company.”
Piaggio said it did not have any plans to re-enter India’s two-wheeler market, after an earlier tie up with LML Ltd ended in 1999.
“There have been speculations that we are looking at an acquisition. We have not met anybody. We have not discussed with anybody. We have no plans,” Chopra said.

Well, piaggio has no plans to enter 2-w market. Is MP3 considered 2w or 3w?? I hope MP3 will make into India(with a manual transmission, IMHO automatic are not green).

Honestly I can’t believe the Piaggio spare parts are unavailable in India. I am very confident with the P.V.P.L. chairman/managing director Mr. Ravi Chopra for his management skills and anticipation for the future. Every one knows that, without the spare parts availability,a Rolls Royce car also could become a junk of metal. I am pretty sure Mr. Chopra must have invested sufficient amount of money for the spare parts to support the Piaggio vehicles put on road. Furthermore,I would like to suggest Mr.Chopra to establish a direct link with the Piaggio vehicle owners, for any useful comments and act accordingly to make at least 90% of the sold piaggio vehicles put on road by providing a healthy support and service after sales. Last but not least, the P.V.P.L. should consider that, the Piaggio vehicle owners are the only genuine clients of their organization.

Since decades ago the Piaggio products had proved themselves to be one of the reliable brands around the European markets. Hence there should be no doubt about it’s reliability here in India too. However I disagree with the specified load permit of Ape 1.3 ton truk & Quadricycle 1.5 ton truck. These vehicles should be limited to maximum load of 500 kg only. For the reason, the engine of these models haven’t enough power to pull the load in a situation where the reserve power is needed.In the name of all public road users,I have a question to the manufacturer.In a broad day light,good weather/road condition,carrying specified load and a good driver driving at the speed of 60 kmh; Could he make an emergency stop at the distance of 35 meters ? The shortest stopping distance for 60 kmh speed is as follows: Thinking distance 15m braking distance 20m and overall stopping distance is 35 meters. For yes answer to the above question, congratulation to Piaggio India; Otherwise please wake up and update your products for the vehicle safety issues.

The CNG version cargo carrier Ape three wheelers as seen on the top of this page together with Mr. Ravi Chopra seems quite versatile product. Perhaps the passenger version of this vehicle would be either with the 3x pax 1x dvr, or 6x pax 1x dvr as usual as box shape design. But I’ve got different idea for the conversion. It would be like a classic micro car for a couple with complete weather proof hardtop and Maruti size 2x doors; As well as wide room to accommodate 2x bucket seats. A folding type luggage boot could be designed on the engine compartment enable to carry out daily servicing.The conversion is only possible if the said vehicle is replace with car alike hand brake, steering wheel, gear lever on floor, clutch, foot brake and accelerator pedals. After conversion the veh as per above said design, should PVPL maintains the price tag of 1.3 lakh then there are chances to attract classic lovers and two wheelers too. PVPL feed back would be highly appreciated.

The PVPL should be aware of the availability of 3 wheeler cars and micro cars in the market specially Chinese & Taiwanese models. Once again I refer to my suggestion dated 1st Jan 2008 at 12:24am as seen on this page above, PVPL BHAI SAHEB! SAMAYA KE SATH CHALO WARNA DERI HOJAYEGI AUR KOI DUSRELOG BAJI MARLEGI. Don’t just hang on with the auto rickshaw and cargo carrier models only. You can modify the Ape 3 wheelers as a luxurious micro car for 2 x people with a large size luggage boot or a standard 3 wheeler car for 4 x people with a small size boot on the same chassis. The world is suffering from the fuel shortages. The working class people of the world are anticipating on the fuel efficient cars for their personal transport requirements. The motorcyclist also could be attracted if the above said cars could be manufactured with the following requirements:-
(a) SAFETY. Safety is always first. The Maruti car safety standard requirement has to be maintained.
(b) PERFORMANCE. It has to be a 4 stroke engine with any kinds of fuel. It should have enough power to maintain the speed of 60 kmph over the flat level road and able to incline over the 23 degree up hill. The fuel consumption in any road conditions, 25 kmpl is acceptable. The engine and gearbox of the Quadricycle 1.5 tonne is recommendable for this new promising products. All 3 wheels are to have disk brakes. The suspension has to be soft and flexible as a real car.
(c) CAR DESIGN. The car is always considered as a beautiful lady. Hence the buyers are naturally attracted with the good looking cars. But, the designers should not sacrifice the car safety factors in this respect. However these cars should look like a conventional car with the proper car dash board, steering wheel,floor gear lever,foot accelerator,clutch & foot brake paddles. The main reason for these requirements are to give the drivers and passengers full safety and natural feelings of a real car whilst traveling in the new design 3 wheeler car. It is better to design the best possible model car, and be able to attract all customers for more than 50 years in the future.
(d) SERVICES. Previously I had already suggested that, PVPL needs to establish a direct relation link with their final consumers for any disputes with the local authorized dealers in respect of the genuine spare parts availability in their area. The availability of the spare parts, plays vital role in the transport industry to enable the vehicles put on road instead of vehicles off road at the workshop. Hence PVPL has to be very serious on this issue.
(e) PRICE TAG. ????? This is the point where every body is meditating around. Should I be selected to fix the price tag of the said products then,I might recommend just a little profit margin after the production costs and the government tax for the time being.I would not worry much about the Tata Nanu existence rather, I would make sure that the said products are manufactured in a very strict orders according to the PVPL manual instructions rules.
Lastly, I can see that the Piaggio quadricycle 1.5 tonne has got the potentiality to be converted as similar design to the Tata Nanu.
I would be happy to receive any feedbacks from the PVPL India Limited professionals with reference to my above mentioned suggestions.
