1) Following the Hyundai i10 which has been doing well since its debut, Hyundai India will come up with an another small car called ‘i20′. While the i10 will cater to the needs of A segment customers, the new i20 will meet the needs of B or B+ segment lovers. The new i20 developed under the codename ‘PB’ will replace the getz in global markets but in india it will co-exist with the exist atleast for some period of time. The i20 (codenamed PB) will be positioned above the existing Getz.
2) Unlike the i10, the new i20 is designed specifically to meet the european consumers(not for indian). But since Hyundai is shifting its small car production to india from korea, Hyundai will offer the new i20 as a bonus to indian consumers. Already, Hyundai india manufacturers european atos prime(santro in india), i10 and getz for global markets. Soon the new i20 will join this line-up. With this almost 30% of Hyundai production will be manufactured in the chennai plant by 2009.
3) Hyundai’s new i20 hatchback is largely inspired by its premium hatchback i30 (already launched in europe and korea). i20 front is defined with a low slung grille, large headlamps and sporty round fog lamps. The steeply raked winds screen flows smoothly and merges with a novel tail section. Similar to Renault Clio, Hyundai i20 features an upright tailgate which means more room for luggage too. Interiors will be top notch with high-quality plastics and it will be comfortable with a more flexible seating layout similar to i10. If you believe getz is the most spacious hatchback, time has come to rethink! the new i20 will be offer plenty of space to live-in even more than the spacious getz.
4) The i20 will be powered by a new 1.2 litre gasoline engine (kappa) developing 58KW. Hyundai is also developing a new 1.1L CRDi pumping out 55KW. In european market a three door hatchback of i20 will be launched in 2009. The next generation kia rio will be built on the i20 platform. According to Hyundai, similar to i10, the localisation content in i20 for the domestic market would be around 93 per cent and 70-85 per cent for the global markets.
5) Hyundai’s i20 will be launched in 2008 both in indian and western markets. In india, the i20 will take on the upcoming skoda’s fabia, Honda jazz and Volkswagen polo. The i20 will be priced around Rs5.5 lakhs.
i20 in india:
Hyundai Motor India (HMIL) is planning to roll out the i-20 model in India, an upgraded version of the recently launched i-10 compact car, by the end of 2008, a company spokesperson said.Similar to its predecessor i-10, the i-20 will be manufactured exclusively in India and exported to other countries. The i-20 model, which will come in many variants, is expected to be priced anywhere between Rs 5-6 lakh. The i-20 is likely to be equipped with an automatic gear box to facilitate convenient driving. Both the i-10 and the i-20 models will be manufactured in HMIL’s second plant at Sriperumbudur near Chennai, set to be operational by January. Once the new plant is operational, HMIL’s overall manufacturing capacity of all its models would go up from the existing 300,000 units to 600,000 units per annum. Out of the total capacity of 600,000 units, the company will manufacture around 200,000 i-10 cars.
Apart from the i-20, Hyundai would also launch the diesel variants of i-10 by 2008 and Santa Fe, its premium SUV, in April next year in India.
“At present we only have a petrol variant of i-10, but we hope to roll out the diesel variant by 2010. We will also launch Santa Fe, a fully imported SUV from South Korea, in India in April or May next year. Santa Fe will be priced at around Rs 22 lakh,” BS Jeong, senior general manager of HMIL said.Hyundai, which has already sold over 15,000 units of the i-10 in India since its launch in November, is eyeing a sales volume of 200,000 in the next year, which includes the domestic as well as overseas market.It has set a total sales target of 500,000 units across all its models for 2008, out of which around 230,000 units will be sold in India.

_dearsir, i had the occasion of test riding and driving the skoda fabia ambient(middle variant,diesel) and i am very much impressed about the features and performance,two problems remain one is the too much of cost fr a hatch back design and aftersale service since rourkela has no service or sale centre(only at bhubaneswar,the state capital which is 5ookms away).i am using a santro now and hyundai fan also.i intend to upgrade my car to i20 which will compete skoda fabia.will the middle variant of both skoda and i20 will almost be same or something different performancewise and featureswise.please give a valued judgement and consider me as a senior citizen.a reply in my e mail address will be highly appreciated

Between those,definitely i10 1.2 Magna…You will enjoy driving that, and its a newer car, looks better than the others…but the downside that i have found with i10 has been Body Roll due to tall boy Design, and ride is little bumpy…

Hyundai is very tight lipped about the mileage for i20. any idea what we can expect with AC inside city like (Bangalore) and on with AC on highways..

The Hyundai i 20 has a power steering, power windows and controls on the right hand rest of the driver’s door which enables you to operate the power windows and lock them if needed. Hyundai I 20 allows to close both the side mirrors of the car without even reaching out to them, all that needs to be done is press a button
As of now,FIAT’ grande punto looks much better then any other small cars though it is 4 years old.Truly its an europen car with strong brand behind.

I recently test drove the Maruti Ritz with my family and found it to be simply awesome.I really like the way the interiors has been styled. The dual tone dash board looks cool and quality is very impressive as well.
Ritz is very comfortable to drive and better utilisation of space. Very smooth gear shifting and you donot even know if the engine is on.good in mileage…
