Bajaj to launch new Pulsar 220cc on June 23rd

As expected Bajaj will launch 2009 variant of its flagship product pulsar 220cc. Bajaj’s only fuel injected bike is due for a makeover for sometime. The new pulsar 220cc is claimed to have a top speed of 140kmph (the current one being 125kmph). An increase of few bhps would suffice to achieve this speed. CNBC TV18 also reports that the new pulsar 220cc will be aggressively priced closed to Rs70,000 (at a massive discount of Rs15,000 from the current one). But we suspect the report as it would erode the brand and resale value of pulsar like anything.
Apart from the engine change and price reduction (if true), the new pulsar 220cc will get contemporary black theme and carbon fibre diffuser.

the 15,000 less is NOT discount. it is less because this will be a dts-i engine and NOT dts-fi.
the fuel injected pulsar 220 dts-fi will continue to be sold with this new pulsar 220 dtsi
This is idiotic from Bajaj.People are expecting Pulsar 220 DTS-Fi with 1 bhp extra from the old model and Bajaj is putting 20cc extra in 200 and giving a new 220?These kind of policies are going to ruin Pulsar 200 DTSi sales by cannibalisation.The old Pulsar 220 touched 135 kmph with ease thanks to FI.This carburreted version won’t be able to come anywhere near the old 220 in terms of performance.Already Bajaj made a blunder with 180 by increasing the power and decreasing the torque,compromising on refinement of the engine.The good thing they did was replace the useless gearbox and throw out the kickstart from 180,adding good features from 200.

Have you checked the performance of this new bike with a V-box?

Every magazine and owner is praising on how refined the new Pulsar 180 has become. You are the first guy who has said that the refinement on the new Pulsar 180 has gone down?

Ghosal,Generally FI versions are more powerful and better performing compared to carburetted ones.Let us see how this one shapes out.
In my view,decreasing the torque for 180 was bad.They could have kept it constant.That said,if you go through my comment I’ve said that Bajaj have added the good parts of 200 in 180 and improved it somewhat.
Price reduction is a good news
I just wish that Bajaj launch a fuel-injected Avenger and price it around 80K OTR.They have been overdoing the Pulsar platform too much and completely neglected the Avenger.Avenger infact needs a serious upgrade.
price reduction will come at the cost of qaulity and performance

please don’t make baseless speculations. when the fuel injected honda cbf stunner can cost about 15k more than the carbureted one, why can’t a carbureted pulsar 220 cost 10k less than its fuel injected version?

pulsar can`t beat the good ground clearance bikes like yamahaR15& karizma

bajaj had always promised 2 give a more fuel efficient engine every time n this new 220 has added 2 the list
i hav bought yamaha fz 16 in jan ………..bt i m not satisfied wth fz coz the radial tyre was very slippy whenever i used to brake itz skit evry time.bt i m very much suprised that pulsar had launced 220 cc bike in a very affordable price..so m very keen to buy this bike………..thanks to bajaj …………..hav fun frnds wth ur n only urs pulsar 220 ……..mind it
