I am support your comparision, you have used the correct lines for all the 4 cars.
I was the owner of Hyundai Verna. Sold it and now i have these four choices.
….daily 35 to 40KMS/ bi-weekly one long drive 300KMS/….this is my usage.
I am not very particular about the initial investment, i need a good car.
I should not be troubled later with high maintainance for every service.
Was almost convinced about the CRUZE, but do not know anything about its maintaiance/service/sapares ?
approx how much is the cost of its 10K service and spares cost?
Can you help me selecting good car.
Why dont u consider the Honda Civic as i personally feel that this is still the best class in this segment. None of these cars can beat the civic in terms of styling and performance together. Corolla Altis may be economical and reliable , but considering the engine 1.4 litre, power 80 Bhp for a car in this class is not something which a car enthusiast can tolerate. chevy cruze looks good in styling and has a pretty good 2.0 l engine but what bothers me is the reputation and the future of the company. VW jetta is a pretty good car. but the price tag is on the higher side compared to the other cars. Also considering your usage , please consider whether u actually need a diesel car . if so i think u consider the Skoda Laura. If not civic will be a smart choice. Its futuristic , Stylish and reliable and the performance is exceptional. the only one problemm i would say for this car is the ground clearance.
Hi, Honda doesn’t offer Civic in diesel, that is the only reason we did not consider Honda Civic
You can drive honda civic only on plain city roads without speed breakers. Though I am a proud owner of honda but my heart skips a beat every time it touches the speed breaker. Why tax your heart .
Your usage is 40X5 + 2×300 = 800 km/wk ie 3200 km per month. You definitely require a diesel car. Maintenance of cruze is not much and is absolutelly free for three years. The only issue when you compare with toyota altis diesel is resale value and servicing. If you follow your heart for short term, go for cruze but for longer period go for toyotas reputation is better.
i drove the altis diesel. even at a speed of 120-130 i could not feel any problem of the car being pulled back because of underpower. the sixth gear also helps and gives a cruzing feel. did not expect such performance from a 1.4 l engine. what i experienced is what i will believe in. guess toyota has done its homework well. also tried the Laura. it surely has a punch while you are driving but as per my research whoever pocesses the car talks about expensive spares and maintanance issues. gives 11 kms per liter. Cruz by far had the best power. It is a dream car. Looks great as well. In all the 4 cars under the scanner, it is the best. BUT…a big BUT… the GM tag discourages me to even look at it. I also have an Aveo and the problems i am facing in getting the right service is a challenge everytime. spares are expensive. service guys have no answers for any problem. On the other hand the service that i get from hyundai is far better.as per the feedback i get from the market…toyota also has an envious record of after sales service. looking at all the parameters, i am going in for the altis diesel. with 21.43 kms to a liter, it will be value for money and recover the extra money that i pay over the petrol version, in just one year flat…!!
Go ahead Nitin, unless you are a speedster, Altis Diesel with a class leading mileage is the best choice available right now!
well,im mor crazy in drivng.so im considerng mor perfomanc nd safety.itz too late 2 welcom chevy cruze.
early i hav skoda laura, but nw i sold nd but cruz.
it hav an impressiv powr of 150ps nd mor secure.
also i got a mileage of 16kmpl.moreovr,the maintainanc cost is least 4 gm brand.
i can driv it with max speed of 195kmph.
itz a car compensating with benz skoda etc.,at an affordable pric of rs 14lakh
Hi Bibinlal what is the City/Highway mileage of ur Cruze…??
and how many month do u owe it any maitenace During the period Pls Tell me as i m confussed which car to buy..??
drove the new 2010 2.0 ltr laura ambiente. amazing car. plush feel. 16kmph mileage. it gives the true feel of a luxury car. as i gather, the superb and laura diesel have the same engine. only the features would differ. the same is made good in cruze where all the features are in a range of 14 lacs (if bought from haryana). but the GM tag will ta’feelke some time to establish confidence. the pick up and the punch is par exellence. but laura is also not lagging behind in terms of pick up, and giving the “feel” of power. Though its 110 bhp as compared to cruze’s 148 bhp in the mannual transmission but definitely givrs more plush feel while u are inside the car.
the drawback is the key replacement. Laura would take 2 months to replace the key if stolen or lost…but chevy provides the same tech key in 4-5 days only.As i gather that the 2 ltr engine of laura is redisigned for Indian roads as trhere were some AC issues earlier, the car is well equipped to bear higher temperatures / weather conditions.
My vote goes to laura as of today.
If you go by the looks and power specifications, cruze is most appealing
By resale value, ease and economy of maintenance, good ground clearance, peace of mind and long term usage – toyota altis diesel is the best
(If you are looking for only mileage buy maruti dzire diesel)
Can anyone tell me what Laura is good for (most expensive in maintenance which negates its economy in diesel, lowest ground clearance for Indian road speed breakers and pathetic service engineers and after sales service). Pse give me refernce of any skoda owner who can justify its credbility.
AAwsome dude…even i hate skoda…i thnk altis is way bettr than any of these cars!!!who wants this killin power and monstrous engeine whch doesnt give any mileage!!!
I could’t agree more with Arvind. He is spot on.If you want to own an skoda product,pl.ensure that you have another car with you.All services at skoda is time consuming-sometimes months-besides prohibitievely expensive. The worst dealerships in the business when it come to customer service.I was told a fuel pump replacement cost one and half lakhs! Many of my friends are so unhappy with the ownership experience that they would never buy another skoda product. The cars are excellent but the service cost and customer service is nightmarish.Buy the car if only you have no problems on the above negatives. It is a pity that auto magazines never publish it.
I am someone who has been itching to buy a new car and have been researching online to find comments/reviews about others experiences. I won an 2006 esteem which is in perfect condition and has clocked only 35000 Kms till date. I intend to buy another car by Jan/Feb 2011 and have my eyes set on the Cruze but folks around my have been discouraging me and suggesting an Altis or a Laura. I will continue to use my Esteem for my day to day office travel but this new car will be driven on weekends and trips to places like Jaipur, Agra, Mathura, Chandigarh and do on. So i decided to go for a diesel … now from the above comments i reckon some of you fellas have the right knowledge about cars can i request some suggestions please. Another important thing for me like any other car owner is cost of spare parts, after sales service… look forward to your suggestions.
Skodas r horrible to maintain nd mayb same wid vw s so dnt go fr them altis is underpowered Bt a very good n reliable car…cruze is d ultimate u can buy..it’s low on maintenance n is a gorgeous car…If u r gonna Kip it fr new than 5 yr do nt wry abt resale value…
I have driven the Altis diesel and trust me the pick up and all is pretty good. See even though its a 1.4l engine, it has tunning which makes it quite comfertable to drive. Press the throttle little harder than the 2000 RPM and you will feel it… And if you actually want performance, then diesel aint meant for you. As far as the service is concerned, it has the best after sales service in the market. Their products last for decades. We have owned a qualis since 2000, we yet prefer using it for daily use, even though we have other cars. You’ll wont beleive even after driving nearly 3,00,000 Kms we haven replaced the original clutch plate. This is what toyota is all about. They know the true meaning of QUALITY!
As far as the Laura is concerned, i think the car is beautiful. But as all knows, we need a very good after sales service after purchasing such an expensive car. I have heard from alot of skoda owners about expensive spares.
Cruze – an absolute no! i really doubt the GM cars. If you have some kind of mad money and you want to throw off your car after using it for one year then you can go ahead!
In my opinion, one who wants a peace of mind, quality product and elegent product should blindly go for the Altis diesel. You will cherish your decision even after 10 years!….Cheers!
All about the 4 cars Toyota Altis diesel is the best in following wise
1) Quality in class
2) Low maintenence Cost
3) Good milage
4) Good resale value
5) Value for money
6) Till 5,00,000 km u can drive without any issues.
i have toyota innova 2006 now finished 81000 its service maintenance too cheap approx 1800 to 2300 only.then its resale value very very good so im happy to say abt my toyota family.pls better go for toyota
wow my honda activa’s last service bill rs 2200
definatly i go toyota
toyota corrola altis is 1.4 lit diesel engine but performance ok .quality, service, low maintanance, resale means go toyota.u want pick up only means go others
I HAVE GO THROUGH THE TEST RIDES OF ALTIS DIESEL,CRUZE AND LAURA TOO.BUT THE CAR I SELECTED FOR MY SELF IZ ALTIS.
CRUZE- GUD IN PICK UP,17 KMPL MILAGE,SERVICE COST TOO HIGH,RESALE VALUE WILL SHOCK U AT THE TIME OF SALE .WORST COMFORT
LAURA-SERVICE & SPARES TOO COSTLY,MILEGE ABOUT 15 KMPL,RESALE VALUE IZ WORST,LUKS R IMPRESSIVE,BUT PERFORMANCE IZ WORST,MY CAUSION HAD BOUGHT NEW LAURA ,AFTER 6 MONTHS ITZ A/C GET DESTRUCT,AND INSTEAD OF COMPANY ISSUE THEY MAKE OUR ISSUE AND AK FOR NEAR ABOUT 1 LAC FOR REPAIR OF A/C,THEN THE DEAL WAS FINELED AT 50 ,000.SO BAD IMPRESSSION OF SKODA.
ALTIS -1400 CC ENGINE TURBOJET INTERCOOLER.MILEGE ABOUT 22KMPL.COMFORT ,HIGHER THEN ANY OTHER CAR IN ITZ SEGMANT.PEACE OF MIND,MAJOR SERVICE COST 2500 ONLY.I WILL SAY ITZ BUISENESS CLASS CAR,
WID A MIND BLOWING INTERIOR WID EXCELLANT PERFORMANCE,AND GUD FAITH OF TOYATA,I WILL ADVICE EVERYONE SHOULD GO TO ALTIS DIESEL.
Which diesel automatic you recommend?
My usage is about 1500-1800KM per month – mostly city drive – both self drive and chauffeur driven (so back seat comfort and leg room important)
Laura I am not keen due to reported service issues
For my mileage – diesel is not a must but a petrol AT will drink fuel like mad.
So the basic choice is between Cruze and Jetta
I am aware Cruze offers much batter performance (acceleration / power) and equipment – but these are not too important to me
Question is which car will be good for quality / reliability / Service – better re-sale etc.
Does anyone have idea of maintenance costs and service for Jetta and Cruze?
hi i am confused between which car to buy at range of 15 L. i love driving & just like the way my swift handles & steers. altis is not too much fun to drive. lifeless electric power steering. civic is too low & poor torque for city driving. new civic will take another year to come at least.no skodas for me after knowing about their servicing issues. jetta too expensive to own & maintain. cruze is only show but in depth it lacks the finesse of a toyota or honda. my running is less i dont need a diesel. mainly city driving with weekend drives of about 100 kms. can anyone help me.
Marty, Have you booked your next car. I keen to hear about your views on Altis Diesel. Now the car is on the road for 6+ months – can anyone please provide feedback on Performance, mileage, sales volume etc.. Many Thanks
Well….Well….Well…..Guys…great reviews by all……I completely agree that Toyota is best as all others cars have the maintenance/service issues. Altis surely delivers great quality and great after sales service. I have a Ford Fiesta…bought in 2008…….My ford has done 65000 kms now so u can imagine that my running is too much……I am also planning to buy a new car and after driving Ford and its service issues which are not that much as compared to VW & Chevy…..and of course SKODA……i am in no doubt to go for Altis as compared to all other cars in its class. Even my Ford can go upto 170……and i have driven at that speed only twice in three years coz u need special roads to drive at that speed……so i am not at all luking for a car which has great power and blah blah blah…..going over 200 kmph etc….that’s why i m going for Altis….infact..altis delivers a decent power which is more than enough….in a city like Delhi……I have driven Cruze and Skoda….liked it but…if u compare dem for a long run…..den u shud choose Alitis any day……..Altis will win HANDS DOWN….
Hi – what is the booking wating time. Have you managed to get any discount from the dealer(s).

hi i have a ford fiesta 2008 model, right now i buy another car i want comfort and quality dally ride 50 km and long drive in a weekend 300 km ilike fiesta globeal but the old fiesta has ac issues and many prob thats why i was confused. plese tel me which car perfect for me.
I own aT.corolla 2006.It is a good car.But never believe toyota quality very blindley!.Once a small crack appeared in the front wind shield & I had to change it .The year marked in that was 04.Later the plastic on the key broke ,had to spent 10000k+miserable 1 month waiting. Then a/c gone :22000k.Mileage down 11km,Suspension not okay! etc;all this in 60000km,decent driving. Never a toyota again.Chevorlet Cruz is an excellent choice.GM is humble & genuine
