Like its forebears, it simultaneously protects and enhances the appearance of automotive paint, this time for upwards of twelve months at a time. Developed in Germany, it lays down an invisible glass-like coating that not only provides excellent protection against bird droppings, bug splatter, brake dust and harmful UV radiation, but also partially mimics the self cleaning properties of Lotus plant leaves in nature (the Lotus Effect). The Lotus Effect refers to the amazing self cleaning properties of the Lotus plant, which is so efficient that even honey rolls straight off the leaves leaving no trace behind. This effect is the result of Lotus leaves having a microscopically rough surface covered in nano-scale wax crystals, which together serve to repel water and prevent wetting of the leaf surface. Instead, water droplets remain almost perfectly spherical and roll off under gravity, picking up particles of dirt and cleaning the leaf as they go.
