Driving Licence in Pondicherry

(a) Procedure to be followed for obtaining Learners’ Licence:


The persons who intend to get Learners’ Licence must apply in Form 2 along with the documents mentioned below and fees of Rs.30/- for each class of vehicle. The applicant will have to appear in person for a preliminary test.

Test: Preliminary written test will be conducted in this department from 9.30 a.m. to 12.30 p.m. and 2.30 p.m to 4.30 p.m. for a duration of 30 minutes for each batch. The question paper contains the objective type questions relating to traffic signs, traffic rules and regulation. The result of the test will be exhibited in the notice-board on the next day and successful candidates can get the learners’ Licence.

Eligibility:


1) For driving motor–cycle without gear the applicant must have completed 16 years. In case of the applicant applying for Learner’s Licence between the age of 16 between 18 then the Parent or Guardian should sign giving their consent in Form-2 before the Licensing Authority/Assistant Licensing Authority;
2) For other vehicles, applicant must have completed 18 years;
3) For driving Transport vehicles applicant should have completed 20 years;
4) After 30 days of obtaining Learners’ Licence, they can apply for permanent Driving Licence;
5) Preliminary test is exempted, if he is already possessing Learner’s Licence or permanent licence. But he has to appear before the Authority with proof of documents in original;
6) Medical Certificate is necessary for the persons who have completed 50 years of age.
7) Medical certificate is necessary for the persons applying for transport vehicles such as Bus, Lorry and Taxi etc.

Documents to be enclosed with Form 2 ( Attested zerox copies)


(1) Recent photograph of passport size – 1 for each class of vehicle for office use. (Apart from one affixed in application Form-2.)
(2) Residence proof (Elector's Photo I.D. card/ Passport etc).
(3) Age proof (Birth Certificate/School Certificate/College Certificate)
(4) Nationality Certificate.
(5) Medical Fitness Certificate in Form 1 and 1A (In case of Transport vehicle and applicants completed 50 years of age)
(6) The applicant shall enclose self addressed stamp envelope of Rs. 12 or Rs. 25 (as applicable) for speed post delivery.

(b) Procedure to be followed for obtaining Driving Licence:


1. Applicant shall apply in Form 4 after 30 days of getting the Learner’s Licence.
2. Valid LLR.
3. Recent Passport size photo - 1 No. (To be affixed in the Form 5 issued by driving schools in case of Transport vehicles.)
4. Fees is Rs. 250/- paid at department cash counter.
5. Candidate should report at camera room with the cash receipt to capture bio-metric of the applicant.
6. TEST OF COMPETENCE:- Driving Test will be conducted on the day on which FORM-4 is submitted.
7. The vehicle brought for test should exhibit ‘L’ Board ( both front and back side of the vehicle).
8. The applicant shall enclose self addressed stamp envelope of Rs. 12 or Rs. 25 (as applicable) for speed post delivery.

The result of the test will be informed on the spot.

(c) Additional endoresement of Vehicles in the Driving Licence


After getting regular driving licence, if a person wants to add more class of vehicles, for e.g. a person having two wheeler licence wants to have licence for car etc, he has to follow the below mention procedure.

1. Applicant shall apply in LLR as detailed in (a).
2. Apply in Form 8.
3. Enclose valid LLR after completion of 30 days from the date of issue of LLR.
4. Existing original Driving Licence shall be enclosed.
5. Fees is Rs. 250/- paid at department cash counter.
6. Candidate should report at camera room with the cash receipt to capture bio-metric of the applicant.
7. TEST OF COMPETENCE:- Driving Test will be conducted on the day on which FORM-8 is submitted.
8. The vehicle brought for test should exhibit ‘L’ Board ( both front and back side of the vehicle).

The result of the test will be informed on the spot.
The applicant can get Driving Licence by producing the cash receipt issued while paying the licence fees.

(d) Renewal of Driving Licence


1. The applicant shall apply in Form 9, (submitted with in 30 days of the validity of Licence)
2. Enclose Medical Certificate in Form 1 with pass port size photos -2 Nos.
3. Existing Driving Licence original.
4. Fees Rs.250/-.

i) If the application is submitted after the expiry of the validity of licence (including the grace period of 30 days after expiry) a penalty of Rs.100/- should be paid for belated renewal for the period of first one year after that penalty of Rs.50/- per year should be paid in addition to the above upto 5 years
ii) If the belated submission is more than 5 years than the candidate shall follow the above procedure, enclose valid LLR and also pay Rs.50/- for each class of vehicles for test fees and under go for retest.

5. Candidate should report at camera room with the cash receipt to capture bio-metric of the applicant.

(e) Duplicate Driving Licence


1. Applicant shall apply in Form LLD, Afiix passport size photo 1.
2. If the old licence is destroyed, damaged or defaced, the licence has to be enclosed.
3. In case of loss or theft, a non-traceable certificate issued by an officer of the police Department not below the rank of Station House Officer (S.I) shall be enclosed.
4. Fees is Rs.210/- .
