TVS Motors has launched its TVS Apache series bikes with four variants namely Apache RTR 160, Apache RTR FI 160, Apache RTR 180 and Apache RTR 180 ABS. This has been launched with an affordable price and impressive color shades. The RTR in this bike represents "Racing Throttle Response". The Apache series bikes are exclusively for the bike racers since it is designed with a racing approach.Design and Engineering
The TVS Apache series bikes are a boon to the Indian conusmers since it is suitable for Indian riding conditions. The RTR TVS Apache bikes are created with the aim of competing with the other bikes such as Pulsar and CBZ. It shakes the competitors with its unique design and sporty look. The Apache RTR 180 ABS bike performs an automatic self-check which is marked by the blinking of an LED on the console. It has the speed sensors which watches the speed of the wheel and send signals continuously to the HECU. The Apache bike owns a sporty headlamps with wide fuel tank cowl which gives the front appearance very stylish. Big airscoops are mounted at the fuel tank which enriches the cooling capacity of the bike. The dashboard is in digital mode but the tachometer appears in analogue format. The Clutch of Apache bike is of type Wet Multiplate. Some features are Digital Speedometer showing Top Speed, Split Grab Rails, Black Alloy wheels, Racing GT Strip, Digital LCD Console Speedometer etc. The Apache Series bikes are produced with a square engine which returns five speed gearbox. LED tail lamps are positioned at the rear part of the bike which gives a pretty glance. The bike consists of larger tubeless tyres for balancing the bike better and provides a good riding experience at rough roads without any trouble about the puncture. The brakes in TVS Apache are well equipped with an advanced technology and stops the bike instantly. The bike holds a disc and drum brake while the RTR TVS Apache 180 ABS is developed with the Anti-Lock Braking System for enhancing safety. The braking system maintains the brake force with a software controlled mechanism which uses the inputs from the toothed wheel sensors embedded on the brake discs.
Engine
The TVS Apache RTR 160 is powered by a 159.7cc, 4 stroke, single cylinder engine which gives out a peak power of 11.19 Kw (15.2 Bhp) @ 8500 rpm and maximum torque of 13.1 Nm @ 6000 rpm. The Apache RTR FI 160 powers the 4 stroke EFI engine which generates the 15.7BHP@ 8500 rpm maximum power and torque is 13.1NM @ 8500 rpm. The TVS Apache 180 houses an air-cooled, single cylinder, 177.4cc, 4-stroke engine which pumps out a top power of 12.52 Kw (17.03 PS) @ 8500rpm and torque of 15.5 Nm @ 6500rpm and it is similar to the Apache RTR 180 ABS.
Fuel Economy
The TVS Apache is known for its efficiency, performance and fuel economy. The 160cc variant of Apache RTR delivers a mileage of about 54 kmpl while 160 FI Apache generates a mileage around 42-54 kmpl. The last variant of Apache (RTR 180) throws out a mileage of about 35-40 kmpl and the fuel capacity of all the variants are 16 litres. The ground clearance of all Apache series bike is 180mm.
Variants
Apache RTR 160 - The RTR 160 is one of the variant which bears self start and kick start option. This bike retains an IDIDual Mode Digital Ignition and Double Cradle chassis. The length and height of the bike is derived as 2020 mm and 1050 mm respectively. The Bore x Stroke of RTR 160 is 62 mm x 52.9 mm.
Apache RTR FI 160- The commuter variant of Apache bike is loaded with a Fuel Injection engine. The wheelbase of the RTR FI 160 is 1300 mm and the wheel is of alloy type which looks stylish and classic. The Apache RTR 160 FI boasts a 136 kg of kerb weight.
Apache RTR 180- The TVS Apache 180 is the higher end variant which is designed to furnish the excellent features. This is a sports bike which is expected to deliver a mileage of 60 kmph from standstill in 4.15 seconds and top speed as 125kph. It is housed with Double Cradle Synchrostiff chassis. TVS also introduced the ABS version of Apache RTR 180 which has the specification and features similar to the Apache RTR 180 except the braking system. The new version is incorporated with Anti-Lock Braking System.
Braking and Handling
The brakes of Apache bikes are built with the progressive technology and good handling. The Apache RTR 160 is embedded with Front 270 mm Petal Disc and Rear 130 mm Drum brakes while the RTR 160 FI employs a Front 270mm Disc and Rear 200 mm Disc brakes. The front suspension of the RTR 160 and RTR 160 FI boasts a Telescopic Forks while the rear suspension holds a Monotube Inverted Gas (MIG) filled shocks along with Spring Aid. It has a stroke of 105mm. The ABS in Apache RTR 180 is different from other variants which ensures better safety and comfortable.
