Design and Comfort

Maruti Gypsy Exteriors

The Maruti Gypsy is exclusively designed in order to suit the off road capabilities and it is available in both hard top and soft top versions. The soft top version provides a very simple convertible design where as the hard top offers a bolted top in which the passenger can feel very relaxed. The overall external and internal structure of the vehicle is an innovative effort with lot of useful feature. The front appearance of the car looks very neat with a prominent attractive front grille. The front is decorated with a headlamp cluster and the front grille fits in a long rectangle with round shaped headlamps in the edge of the vehicle. It has a front bumper along with reflector lamps on the bumper offering a stylish appeal to the vehicle. The side profile of the Gypsy is attractive with two reflectors at each end which is quite good. In order to prevent any bushes or rocks affecting the doors or chassis, the side profile is blessed with a simple black lining in the under part of the body. The rally version of the vehicle provides halogen lamps and the driver side has a rear view mirror. The Hard top Gypsy is offered with the front foot step assembly while the soft top version has a foldable front windscreen which is quite impressive. The SUV comes with a perfect 15 inch steel wheels with a tire size of 205/70 R15 for better road gripness and it helps to avoid unwanted skidding problems in wet and slippery roads.

Maruti Gypsy Interior Design

Maruti Gypsy features a traditionally design with excellent interiors which would definitely impress the car enthusiasts. The dashboard of the vehicle is excellent and it does not provide the accessories of a luxury vehicle. The SUV has been adopted with an old style instrument cluster with simple design and block structure. The seating arrangements of the vehicle is very comfy offering space for eight passengers with two passengers sitting at the front where as the remaining six can be seated at the rear section of the vehicle. It offers ample leg room for the front row and the seats can be adjusted according to the user requirements. The air conditioner vents are positioned at both the corner of the vehicle nearing to both driver and passenger at the front. The Maruti Gypsy is fitted with a three spoke steering wheel for decent grip to the SUV. In order to enhance the safety features, the seat belts are provided and it has no airbags which is one of the main drawback. The interiors are well incorporated with fabric upholstery for the hard top version including a vanity mirror on the co-drivers sun visor, a front package tray as well as a lockable glove compartment. The fuel tank capacity of the Maruti Gypsy is around 40 litres which is quite good.

The Maruti Gypsy is packed with a powerful engine of displacement very close to 1298cc. The engine is powered by a SOHC, Multi Point Fuel Injection technology along with four cylinders and 16 valves for better power and torque delivery. The Gypsy churns out the maximum power output of 80 bhp at 6000 rpm in combination with the maximum torque output of 103 Nm at 4500 rpm. Even in off roads, the vehicle’s performance is good with better turning radius. The vehicle is mated to the five speed transmission of two speed transfer and it can handle better usage of fuel.

Acceleration and Fuel Efficiency

Since the engine of the Maruti Gypsy is fitted with a G13BB MPFI engine, it offers superb acceleration and pick up. The car can accelerate from 0-100 kmph in just about 16.4 seconds and it offers an excellent mileage. The Gypsy can deliver a healthy mileage of about 11.96 kmpl on highway roads and 8.45 kmpl for the heavy city traffic roads. The vehicle is really suited for both on road and off roads.

Braking and Handling

The Maruti Gypsy is well incorporated with a decent braking and suspension mechanisms along with its four wheel drive which maintains the off roading the vehicle. The front section is fitted with the disc brake where as the rear is fitted with drum brakes. This combination of disc and drum at both front and rear gives a sufficient off road capability for the vehicle. On the other hand, the front suspension comes with a leaf spring with double action damper with boaster suspension while the rear is also same which makes the driver to handle the vehicle in an easy way and satisfactory. Along with other features, the steering wheel can be locked for ensuring a safe and secure drive. It has been provided with perfect steel wheels of 15 inch with a tire size of 205/70 R15 for better road gripness. All these features combined together assures better safety and security even in worst environment.

Verdict

Maruti Gypsy has both positive and negative impacts in which the vehicle is very good at off road capabilities and it offers reasonable mileage in an affordable cost. But the interiors of the SUV need to be improved and the engine should be modified in order to offer better capacity. Overall, it is a vehicle suitable for both on road and off road condition.
