Hero Duet Review

Ashok Bhasin, Sale and Marketing Chief of Hero MotoCorp insisted in his presentation that the new Duet fits into Hero’s scooter plan which is kept between its similar other scooters namely Hero Maestro and Hero Pleasure. Both men and women are really fond of riding the scooter and so it is considered to be the family scooter. Will the Duet scooter fight with its rivals in terms of design, performance, features and price?? Our test ride gives answers for the above question.

The new Duet comes with a traditional look designed with a metal body structure weighing nearly 6kg heavier than the lighter Maestro Edge. The body panels of the vehicle are positioned in a simple manner with the complex set of curves in the side body while the painted bits join the tail lamp. The length and width of the scooter is measured to be 1830 mm and 726 mm while the height of the Duet is found to be 1139 mm. Hero officials revealed that the minimal usage chrome strips, a vee on the front apron and two dashes on the side are liked very much by the customer. These target customers are in need of stylish dash but not too much. The rear ends with a decent grab rail extending into a short luggage rack which can be able to hold 10kg load which is quite good.

Hero offers the vehicle in completely a new platform in which it includes a fresh frame, fresh engine and fresh design. The engine is powered by a 110.9cc single cylinder, four stroke engine churning out the maximum power output of 8.31bhp at 8000rpm and maximum torque output of 0.84kgm at 6500rpm mated to the CVT transmissions. The company claims to deliver an attractive fuel efficiency of 63.8 kmpl but I got 84 kmph indicated on the Duet’s dials.

Hero Duet gets an Integrated Braking System which connects the rear brakes to the front offering an excellent braking experience even for the new riders. Duet could be able to stop suddenly even in bad road conditions without any trouble. Besides this, the scooter has a good suspension set up of telescopic forks at the front and spring at the rear which is quite impressive to handle even in bad roads. Both front and rear tyre comes with a size of 90/100 x 10 inches enhancing the road performance without any skidding problems.

This braking and suspension mechanism makes the customer to feel very good. The side profile of the Hero Duet gets branded MRF tyres for the pressed steel wheels of 10 inch rim size that gives us a great confidence and better grip on the entire test ride. Safety is not a big issue in this scooter with its proficient braking and suspension system. Both front and rear wheels are fitted with drum brakes for braking efficiency. Handling of the Duet is really superb while going round corners and ride quality is awesome with its suspension setup.

Actually Hero has added lot of exciting features in which it has a small light kept for the under tray as well as USB out in order to charge devices on the move. This slot is a USB 3.0 slot for faster charging of the devices. It is provided with a single key slot for controlling ignition and steering locking as well as for opening the seat and fuel cap releasing mounted behind the rear seat under the rear grab rail. Apart from that, Duet comprises daytime lamps, side stand indicator, a pass switch, two bag hooks and a service due indicator.

For comfortable seating, the scooter has upright riding positions on well padded nicely shaped seats. In order to clamp our helmet, the Duet is offered with little knobs at the seat pivot region which could be accessible only after the seat opens.

Talking about its pricing, Hero Duet comes with an affordable cost of around Rs.50,000. Compared with other scooters, the Duet has nothing lacking in terms of engine and road performance. I am very happy to say that the new Duet delivers what Indian people needs from a 110cc scooter compared to its rivals.
