With the entrance of a four-cylinder diesel version in the year 2010, the existing Mercedes S-class will get an eco-boost. The novel model is anticipated to be motorized by the E250 CDI’s 201bhp turbodiesel, pushing out 384lb ft of torque and it is called the 300 CDI. Downsizing the S-class diesel was an engineering challenge, said Mercedes’ R&D boss Thomas Weber. He added that the problem is NVH [noise, vibration and harshness]. Also making modification to S-class levels was intricate and the company had to alter engine mounts and add extra body stiffness.
