Toyota may join Mazda to make a hybrid

Toyota has announced that the  hybrid version of the Toyota Auris will start from mid-2010 onwards. The production for this model will be set up in the UK at the Derbyshire plant of  Toyota.  Toyota already  enjoys a strong demand for its redesigned Prius hybrid.

News also say that the two automakers, Toyota and Mazda are just talking about bringing out a hybrid using Toyota technology. Mazda a hybrid, the Tribute SU. There is also a possibility of outsourcing development of the hybrid technology, sources say. The deal indicates that carmakers are turning towards more fuel efficient models to meet the strict emission norms.

The agreement would be to provide various hybrid components to Mazda, which may reduce Toyota’s technology costs. The new hybrid may launched in 2013. Around 100,000 units of the hybrid is targeted.
