Jaguar Land Rover , the British luxury carmaker will cut up to 300 jobs from its Halewood, Merseyside, by the end of 2009.

The company will stop producing the X-Type cars at the end of the year, which has made the X-Type Jaguar since 2001. The Halewood site, which employs 2000 people also manufactures the Land Rover Freelander.
Since the industry has been especially badly hit by the recession and the premium sector more than others. Jaguar Land Rover’s retail sales fell by 28 per cent in the past 10 months.
When the X-Type is taken out, it leaves JLR as a very small company. The company, said it would not close the Halewood plant.
