Mercedes-Benz, the most famous luxury carmaker is planning to get into the production of a well advanced plug-in electric version of the SLS AMG Gullwing. The car has been planned to be unveiled in 2015.
The production version of the SLS will be revealed at the Frankfurt motor show on 15 September.
The electric car has been currently named as the SLS eDrive. This car will have the lightweight aluminum body and gullwing doors as in current version. Minor changes will be made to the chassis and suspension in order to fit the four wheel-mounted electric motors.

A pushrod will replace the double-wishbone front suspension of the standard car, with the damper units made horizontal. The electric motors at each wheel will make the SLS Gullwing into an all-wheel drive car. Each motor will give a 98kW of power (an equivalent of 133 bhp) with a 880 Nm (649 lb-ft) of torque. The SLS Gullwing eDrive will speed from 0 to 100 km in about 4 seconds with a top speed of 193 km/h (120 mph).
Re-charging electric vehicle will take a time of 5 to 6 hours on a high-density power-line and 8 hours on a standard outlet.
