Moreover, Mini’s engineers have lucratively handled to robust the BMW four-cylinder engine, planned for a longitudinal purpose, into the Mini’s engine bay in an oblique fitting. The effort implicated in fitting the BMW engine to the Mini was portrayed by our source as “tricky”.

Further, in the experiment cars the engine is united to an automatic transmission, but anticipates production cars to have a physical gearbox. Adding, the Stop-start technology is also expected.

The initial of the novel Mini diesels will have about 150bhp, detuned from the 120d’s 177bhp, but sources utter it would also be potential to employ the more prevailing twin-turbo diesel from the 123d in the Mini.

Also, that would produce a Mini diesel with over 200bhp, and could form the source for a John Cooper Works diesel Mini.

The novel Mini diesels will go through the pilot put up segment this May, when pre-production cars are collected on a test line at BMW’s HQ in Munich. Adding, they are anticipated to go on sale in 12 months’ time, with a potential introduce at next year’s Geneva motor show in the month of March.

Mini merely has one diesel model, the 110bhp Cooper D, which exercises an engine jointly formed with PSA.
