Toyota to make Cheaper Entry Level Prius to contend with Honda Insight

Toyota is on the counter – odious in its scrap for ascendancy in the crossbreed souk against Honda and the contest starts at abode.

As per Nikkei, a Japanese business daily, Toyota will be providing a 2 million yen (20,510 US) gasoline-electric hybrid car in Japan by the year 2011.

Also, Honda publicized that its impending hybrid would be priced at below 20,000 US dollars for the American souk. Further this was following Toyota released the novel Prius with a mileage rating of 50 mpg (4.7 liters/100 km), a measure the Insight’s 41 mpg (5.7 liters/100 km) could not match.

However the novel Insight hatchback that went on trade in Japan last month is flourishing. And it sells for 1.89 million yen (19,300 US dollars) and Honda previously has requests for 18,000 of them, more than triple its monthly familial objective of 5,000 for the imminent. The Toyota Prius vends for 2.33 million yen (23,800 US dollars) in Japan.

Moreover, Toyota will incise costs on its Prius production to launch the cheaper hybrid model by altering parts and exercising an engine smaller than the present 1.5 liter that goes into the Prius.

From May, Toyota will also be releasing a Prius with a 1.8 liter engine that will vend for 2.05 million yen (20,937 US dollars).
