Yamaha to recall YZF-R1 for lead coupler defect

Yamaha plans to recall its flagship model YZF-R1 for the defect which is in lead coupler. The company has announced the recall for the bikes which have been manufactured between the period of October 2008 and August 2013. The defect will lead to headlight overheating and melting.  It will cause arcing and potential short circuit.

Yamaha R1 is powered by a 998cc, 4 cylinder, liquid cooled, 4 stroke, 4 valve in-line engine. The engine can generate maximum power output of 180 hp at 12500 rpm. It will produce peak torque of 115.5 Nm at 10000 rpm. The replacement of headlight sub lead will be free of cost.

The Japanese two wheeler manufacturer will replace the headlight sub lead in all of these affected bikes with a modified one. The company says, “Please note that the replacement of the headlight sub lead shall be free of cost. You are requested to avoid operating your YZF-R1 motorcycle until you get the headlight sub lead replaced.”
