Instrumentation
The newly designed instrumentation includes everything a rider wants to know including gear position.

Projector type headlights
The new R1 has only two projector-type bulbs mounted closer to the nose of the bike. This positions ram air duct closer in for a more compact, smooth look. The innovative new projector headlight design features a solenoid coil type high/low beam mechanism. First time this system has been used on a production bike.

Front Forks
Suspension inludes first SOQI front forks which use one of the tricks developed for our winning MotoGP bikes: independent damping. The left fork handles compression damping and the right side handles rebound damping. And the rear shock adopts new linkage for optimum suspension characteristics.

YCC-I
(Yamaha Chip Controlled Intake) is a variable intake system that broadens the spread of power. The fuel injection system provides optimum air/fuel mixtures for maximum power and smooth throttle response.

feature_12 Logo
YCC-T
(Yamaha Chip Controlled Throttle) is a MotoGP inspired technology used to deliver instant electronic throttle response.

feature_7 Logo
Aluminium pistons
This engine features new forged aluminium pistons to make maximum advantage of the power charateristics. As proven on previous models, intake valves are lightweight titanium.

feature_13 Logo
Con rods
The YZF-R1 is equipped with fracture-split(FS) carburized con rods. The two halves of fracture-split big end rings are re-assembled along the same fracture lines, and this makes for a stronger and more perfectly round big end, giving outstanding performance and reliability.

feature_8 Logo
Crossplane crankshaft
The Crossplane crankshaft produces an uneven firing interval of 270°-180°-90°-180°. This eliminates undesirable inertial crankshaft torque, which allows the engine's combustion torque to build smoothly and provide a very linear power delivery out of the corners.

feature_1 Logo
Slipper type clutch
Slipper-type back torque-limiting clutch greatly facilitates braking/downshifting from high speed.

feature_4 Logo
Aluminium frame
In keeping with this machine's exceptional cornering ability and crisp handling, the all new aluminium frame has been designed to offer exceptional rigidity balance.

feature_6 Logo
Adjustable footrest
Adjustable footrests, with a 15mm height up/down adjustment.

feature_3 Logo
Rear frame
The rear frame is now lightweight CF diecast magnesium, contributing the optimum mass centralization.

feature_11 Logo
Rear tyre
190/55-17 rear tyre for best traction feeling.
